Hey guys Winter is finally over in good old Wisconsin land and im able to start working on some of my projects again.
ive had a constant problem with rebuilding 4 stroke engines. they always seem to be running lean and adjusting the carb seems to have no effect on performance. like it has a massive air leak. they also start hard and need to have excessive idle to stay running. when I take off from a stop they will bog for a sec. then take off at a very slow acceleration. top speed doesn't seem to be there either. at this point im beginning to wonder if im just timing them incorrectly. ive tried multiple carbs\jets and atleast 2 brand new ones with no better results.
every one ive done I line the flywheel up with the "T" mark, then look at the cam, make sure the dots on the cam are all level with the head and the dot is outside.
am I missing something here?!

Did you increase the jet size? All BBK's need a larger jet. That is the first question...cause you can adjust a carb till your blue in the face..but if the jet is too small..well you can't 'adjust' a jet issue..you have to install a bigger jet..

yes I have. it currently has an 88 in it.
Is my system for timing correct? I keep thinking "you know... if the timing is retarted it may be having these symptoms".

Do not trust what is stamped on the jets or what they are say they are.

Is there a way to check the flywheel marking to make sure it is Top Dead Center? I know there is a trick about sticking a piece of wooden dowel into the plug hole and moving the motor until the dowel is all the way up, then check the flywheel mark. Does this work on scooter motors?
