I work on Taotao's everyday. First is set the valves. I set them about .005-.006. If I set them tighter they run like crap. 2ed is the carb. We buy carbs by the case becouse the stock carbs are junk. Also if you have the spark plug boot that has the metal case on the outside of it you MUST CHANGE IT. It shorts out the spark and runs like crap. It will not run if it gets wet. If you need some parts let me know and I can get them for you at a good price. Stock carbs are sealed and you must use a dremal tool to cut a slot into the "screws"get get the bowl off. Also the fuel filter is another thing we replace on every one. For some reason the filters that come with them dont seem to do a good job alowing trash to get into the pilot jet.

How do you know those $29 "Keihin" carbs there are the real thing? the real Keihin carbs appear to cost over $100 and I'm aware there are counterfeits out there with fake "Keihin" names on them. I seriously don't think replacing a cheap stock $35 sealed carb with a likely fake $29 "Keihin" is going to fix anything, if anything I'd go to a non Ebay source that you can confidently be assured of getting the REAL thing.

Yes you can go and spend 100 bucks on one or you can get one cheaper that will work just as well. I am not going to recomend something to someone that I dont know anything about. I have a stock replacement that I can sell you. It is the same thing that we put on out scoots and every one works out of the box. Now you are at a higher elevation you may have to adjust the needle a notch or two just like the 100 buck carbs. Oh and we have over 500 scoots and when there is a carb issue we dont rebuild them, We replace the orignal junk carb. What I have I know for a fact it will work, has every time so far.

Ok I put on the new carb and I'm still having the exact same problem I'm not scooter mechanic so its rather frustrating that it bogs and shuts off but it only does it every now and then and after it shuts of it normally runs great between 40-45mph. Is there anything electrical that could cause this?

Yes, but you miss the point, parts like these $29 carbs v/s $129 on the surface may appear to be "the same" and even seem to work "the same" but like my foreman who just bought a batch of replacement lithium batteries for replacing some defunct batteries used in Makika angle drills at work- he didn't want to pay the $59 price for genuine Makita batteries, instead, he bought some "discount" replacements that were advertised as being just as good/the same and they were about half the cost. Well I unboxed them and they didn't even have a brand name on them- that alone really inspires confidence in my book!, they also felt about half as heavy as the Makita lithiums, now I'm finding that after a few uses they not only don't give as much power, but their charge doesn't last as long as the genuine Makita batteries. You see, there's a REASON why an item or product is $129 and a reason why a knock-off is $29 and it all boils down to quality of workmanship and materials. There's a REASON why those cheap batteries were half the weight- they are made of cheap materials that won't stand up and won't last- I'm already starting to see it and the batteries were put in use about 4 weeks ago. We have Makita batteries still working fine that are from 2003 in use daily in a shop environment. The point is, sure, you can go with a $29 Chinese carb, but if you examine it side by side with a genuine, quality brand name you'll find machine work is far cruder, fit and polish is poor, rubber and other parts used are made from inferior materials, castings made thinner etc etc. In the case of counterfeit stuff with forged Mikuni or Keihin names stamped on them, the quality could be even worse because they ARE counterfeit. I see this all the time, you buy cheap you GET worse than cheap! That same store on Ebay I noticed has a 150 cc head with valves: Scooter 150cc GY6 Cylinder Head With Valves, Chinese Scooter Parts GY6 150cc it's $29.99 with FREE shipping, come on please! what kind of quality does anyone really expect from a $29.99 item like this that even includes free shipping??? This guy has to pay a listing fee, paypal fees, and he has to buy the stuff to begin with and get it shipped. The shipping alone could eat up $8 to $10 depending on the method used. I'm sorry but a $29 carb in my view is just as much of a cheap junk as the stock sealed factory installed ones are, the only difference is the machine screws can be removed on this whereas the factory units the screws are made to be non removable. I consider the carb to be a critical component, sure, you can probably plug just about any carb in there that fits and get the engine started with it, but I wouldnt expect it to perform well, efficiently, or smoothly if it was cheap junk instead of quality. WIth the cheap junk you are more likely to see poor rough, uneven idle and other issues, it follows it's because the workmanship in the critical guts of it are crude and poorly made, it's like comparing a Yugo with a Mercedes- both cars will get you to the beach on a rainy day, but which will work better and last longer? I definitely do agree with you- the factory installed carbs are not even worth rebuilding or fixing, I didn't even bother with mine I replaced it right off.

Ok you missed something. When you buy in bulk you get a discount. When we buy carbs we buy 50 at a time. Cost is low and shipping is cheap. Same thing goes for the head you stated. I hope 90GTvert and other long time members will have input on this. I have used the said carb and havent had an issue. Ask them what they use?

Check that your fuel lines are not being pinched. We've had a few members with this issue lately that have described similar symptoms.
Vacuum leak?
I use a Keihin that I paid more for, but I wouldn't hesitate to try that one for less. I don't really think a carb has to be a Keihin to be decent. The stock carb worked OK for me, I just couldn't adjust it easily.
