First off I have to say that this forum saved my scooter from being thrown off a cliff! I finally got the thing running! I have a problem. The scooter runs with the belt off however it is a little rough; Can not fully open the choke with out the scooter revving up high and bogging out. I tune the carb to the engine having no belt on it and it calms down. However when the variator and belt are attached the belt seems like it is tight, when it does run for a while I need to keep revving it to keep it going or tuning to rich. When It does stay running for more than 30 seconds the starter clutch and starter gear get very hot and start to smoke. I assume the smoke is from the burnt off lubrication. Am I using the wrong lubricant? Belt too tight? has anyone experienced this before?

I bought a brand new starter clutch so I don't think I need a new one. I haven't lubed the belt, what kind of lube should I use for the belt / the starter clutch?
