The 18W18 OEM bulbs I have are halogen bulbs. I touched one and it fried so I keep it on my desk as a reminder. They look like some experimental bulb made by a sixth grader and are crooked looking. They look a lot like those bulbs from Parts For Scooters but the heat shield ring around the base is higher. I have several of them in my spares as well as the larger envelope bulbs. I have no idea what the base designations are. Remember, I don't know crap about scoots or their weird looking parts. You are welcome to any of them, just shoot me a PM. I am in and out of town sometimes. All of mine came from Scooter Depot. I can take measurements if needed. I need to go back out and clean up my rats nest of wires and button up the scoot. The fumes were too bad to remain in the garage last night. I have a gigantic headache this morning but it could be pollen etc.

I got the 35/35 watt bulbs in the mail and put them in. I haven't really done any comparison yet. Just started it and made sure they lit up. Thanks for the offer Franken. The new ones are crooked just like the ones I took out but they work. The last one went out at 1k miles. That seems like a pretty short life.

These OEM import bulbs don't seem to be the best and they get a LOT of vibration. 1K miles sounds a mite short compared to an automotive headlamp. Our lights are full ON all the time though. Hmmmmm, I found a big HIGH/LOW motorcycle headlight that would mount real easy between my marker lights above my LED spots. I could control which set of lamps were ON by switching the ground leads with a toggle switch. The POD switch would still have the HIGH/LOW switch. I don't know how much more power I have. I may be running on the edge now. I added a Aux 'third' brake light to the rear. I found that the LED Stop/Tail bulb I was using leaked power into both the stop and tail circuit, -a poor design. The standard 1157 bulb works correctly so it is installed at the moment. That is drawing 5 or 12W I believe. I have not checked my charge voltage yet. I may have to go back to the LED stop and tail even though it makes the Aux stop lamp glow in tail light mode. If I do some more wiring I may try to figure out where to add a capacitor permanently so meters will read correctly. -Back to studying wiring diagrams and regulator schematics. I keep adding to my collection and tossing the obvious improbable/incorrect/unlikely ones.

You can also check out driving lights from auto parts stores. I use 55W driving lights on one scoot and they work quite well and bulbs are easy enough to find. Not sure exactly how much the lighting circuit can handle, but I've used a 65W and that's been fine. I've used a 55W driving light and the 27W LED spot together and that works. I think that would be about the limit. If I turn on two 55W driving lights they both get dim and it's worse than having just one on.

I was stymied when I asked if I could choose a blonde, brunette, or redhead. For some odd reason the catalog clerk sent me away. She probably called my dad too. I just ordered a Harley headlight for my scoot: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KPRT7U/I hope to be able to control which set of lights I have on with a toggle switch. I don't know what type of H4 bulb it comes with but it is capable of using one of the 60/55W bulbs. The local parts store has a wide selection of H4 bulbs. I am working on a mounting bracket that will also help stabilize my heavy LED lights. I looked at several versions of this light and as far as I can tell they have DOT certification. Some of the descriptions are better than others. Scoots are so much fun....

I had the Silverstar H4 60/55 in my stock housing. I think it's a little hot for the stock housing and started melting plastic when I let it run for a while to see how how it would get. With a good headlight assembly you should have no trouble I'd hope. I highly recommend that bulb. It's the only bulb I've put on my scoot so far that I was totally pleased with, if it would just not melt stuff. The LEDs will become daytime use only if you use the Silverstar I think.

I think you are right about the Silverstar, it runs hot. The materials in that light housing will determine which bulb gets left in there. The smaller housings made by the same company are not rated for the hotter H4 bulbs but can use the 55W H3 units. The 4-1/2" can use either. I am also used to designing electronic enclosures with ventilation back in the high power days etc so modifications may be made The lights will also run hot if the scoot is not moving to provide airflow. You are correct about the day-night question also. The LED bulbs have great visibility during the day but I need to see at night. The LED's were a huge improvement over the 18/18W halogen OEM headlights even at night but they don't give that little tiny spot of visible beam to the right that illuminates the curb or ditch that is terribly important when passing another vehicle. I hope to make some aiming improvements some dark night in a nearby industrial park. I just have to watch out for the cops or hoodlums. It will be a two person job for that reason. The LED's will still be my backup night bulbs if the Silverstar or whatever melts down or blows. I have done a fair amount of spelunking in wild caves when I was younger and I truly believe in backups for backups for primaries when it comes to lights. The normal rule is three sources but that has let me down and I had to go for two more levels of backups. Murphy is a psychotic killer. I carry two LED lights 24/7 and I usually don't go out at night without a hands free headlight of some sort. What can I say, -I am paranoid. It does not matter how good one's night vision is if there is no light at all. I still don't trust these scoots to bring me home yet.

Brent- There are several different 'Silverstar' bulbs now. Which one worked OK for you?
My scoot almost failed to bring me home last night. I did some hard braking trying to wear in my front brakes. The OEM vacuum pump shifted and kinked the work port vacuum line and the scoot died. The OEM pump only has one bolt to secure it and it allowed it to rotate. The electric -Backup- pump brought me home. I am working on the mount today. The electric backup pump makes the lights flicker whenever that solenoid hits.
