Hello, I have done some Google searching on loosing power and it sounds like it is usually an issue with Air/Fuel ratios. But anyways here is what happened.
Bought scooter on a Sunday, Rode it Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday no problem. On Thursday on the way home it started losing power so by the time I made it home it was only going 20 mph.
I did hit a pretty big pothole on Wednesday or Thursday so I'm wondering if something came loose.
Anyways while looking it all over today while it was running I felt a lot of air flow on the left side of the bike. I looked closer at the exhaust. Where the exhaust connects to the motor it looks askew. The air wasn't super hot but I didn't run it long as I didn't want to hurt anything. I decide to try and tighten up the exhaust but I noticed after taking it off there is no gasket as far as I can tell between pipe and motor, I'm guessing there should be one? Also one more thing when I started it up today it seemed to idle a lot higher then previously like it starts to push the scooter without any throttle.
Would a very loose exhaust cause a loss of power after warming up I guess is the overall question?
Thanks Matt

Would a very loose exhaust cause a loss of power after warming up I guess is the overall question? Thanks Matt Lots of airflow on the left side is normal..this is where your fans airflow vents out after cooling the engine. The most common cause for loss of power when warmed up..or after a ride is.. Valves are too tight and out of adjustment...also the torque and clutch springs get weakened from the CVT's heat. Weak clutch springs will make it bog of sorts off the line and accelerate slowly. The torque spring also suffers heat fade or weakening when the CVT heats up. This cause it to 'shift' too soon and puts a load on the engine...therefore not only acceleration is poor...but top end suffers as well. I would check the valve lash setting first. The see how much of a difference there is when doing a short run on a cooled off engine. This will tell ya if you suffer heat fade in the clutch and torque springs. Lastly...yet very common is too lean of jetting..so that when the auto choke(enricher) heats up and shuts off...the engine is now running lean. So you see..everything is not cut and dried..we MUST test and rule out each so that we may correct the issue. Check those things. Btw to check for being too lean...and where the auto choke is acting as a crutch for a lean engine.. Run the engine with the auto choke(enricher) unplugged. Disconnect the wires to it and take a longer ride..2-4 miles. If the engine does not seem to lose power..it tells ya the choke is covering for a lean jetting situation. Glenn..

Thanks for giving me a place to start. BTW it is a 2004 Madami Maxx which from what I can tell is a Vento Zip essentially... I'm trying to remember if acceleration was suffering or just top end. I will go through these steps tomorrow.

Well if its a 2t it won't have any valves to adjust. It may have an air leak. If it started this issue after hitting a pothole you could've jarred the base gasket and caused a leak, check the 4bolts on the head and make sure they're properly tightened and see if that makes a difference. Also get an exhaust gasket put on it, it may have a round crush gasket there that you can't really see unless you take the exhaust all the way off. If its not obnoxiously loud I'd say the gasket may still be there but not seen. Start with the head bolts and make sure they're secure and see where that gets you. Let us know if you still need help with it.

Yeah I had same issue my exhaust bolts came loose and had a massive air leak fixed it and was back in business
