I can't seem to get any more than 700 to 1000 miles out of a belt. Checked everything out in the cvt and everything seems to be working properly and not binding. The belt doesn't seem to wear much just after 700 miles seems to just twist and snap. Anybody know what could be causing the belt to snap?

If so..well...now you know...the rest of the story...

Ebay belts don't last, you will save in the long run if you get a bando

Look closely though...MANY belts on Ebay are called Bando...some even mistype and call them Bondo(no joke..ask around the forum) They are Chinese made junk that are poor clones of the real deal. Important question.. how much did you pay for that Bando on Ebay? If you keep breaking belts..check the heat of your CVT cover when they break. If it is too hot to touch with your hand..well..that is not good! It means the belt is slipping or you have no airflow and ventilation to your CVT. Question..on your CVT itself do you have a plastic fan?(if it is 4 stroke) Also is this a 2 stroke or 4 stroke engine? What scooter is it...and what belt size are you using? Is the engine long case..or short case? Meaning do you have 10 inch or 12 inch wheels? We need to know what scoot ya have so we know for sure you are getting the right belt. Once we establish it is the right belt size..AND a real Bando not just a clone or knock off..we can help ya better. From there we can get into technical and mechanical issues that cause a belt to break..k? This is 49cc Scoot..and if we can't fix it..one or 2 things may be the issue.. 1. It ain't broke..or 2. It can't be fixed..lol. But seriously...answer all the above and we can go from there.. Glenn

Anybody know what could be causing the belt to snap? do ya ever clean out your cvt / clean out the belt dust, debris, etc? i went with a bando belt myself on recommendation from others, most say bando or gates are good, and the cheap ones don't last so well. i do think regular servicing/cleaning out in there may help any belt live a bit longer. also excessive heat might shorten a belt life.

real bando's have a box with them and it says made in japan on it. or comes straight from the dealer, not if its actual chinese. if its a clone and the real bike has teh same size belt, get it from the dealer. find the size of real bike belt. gates usually makes copies and tehy use numbers.

The scooter is a Yamati eurostrada RX8. It is a 2 stroke. It has 12 inch wheels. I did not buy the belt off Ebay. I bought it local and it's not bando or gates but it looked like a good quality belt. If anyone can find one in my size please let me know? The size is 792x16.6x30. The area I ride is mixed with flats and hills. The mods done to the cvt are 2000 contra and clutch springs and switched from 4gr. to 4.5gr. rollers which seemed to work best. I added a sport pipe that looks like the one you see on Ebay for $99. but bought that local as well. It's an unrestricted pipe. Upjetted the carb from #80 to #90 main jet and open element filter. Also oil injector pump started leaking so I plugged it and went to premix. Scooter seems to run well except for the belt issue. Yes the cvt cover does seem to get pretty hot. I think the belt was around 28 to 30 dollars. Cheap belts break in a couple miles.

did the plug go down into the crankcase? did you get the right type of plug, if it did? ones that go down in the crankcase also make the crankcase pressure higher by taking up space. the closest i seen is by malossi 793x16.8x30 www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/belt+malossi+xspecial+belt+_m6112741 its malossi 6112741 make sure its got slack. if yours has slack when its brand new and you put it on, make sure this one has slack. them angles are according to malossis chart. id measure the width. and make sure it has a little slack. even teh bets brand names seem to be .5 a mm short. but it, its totally a mod. remember that, totally a mod. make sure theres some slack. try a 1000 center spring. or try some heavier rollers. that might be why your not maxing out your variator. and your belt might be fine. 2000 center sprign, might be wearing out your belt quicker, squeezing on it, and pushing it down in the back quicker, keeping it in higher gear. squeezing on it.

I think the belt was around 28 to 30 dollars. Cheap belts break in a couple miles. Somebody correct me if I am wrong...but the Yamati RX8 is a long case Minarelli and all of those I have worked on used a 788-17-28 belt..that is the marked Bando size.. Gates size for that are marked 788-18.1-28 So your belt would be a few mm too long which is no biggie usually..but the bevel angle of 30 vice 28 I have found was hit and miss in that sometimes the 30 degree bevel belt would slip sideways. In fact 2 times the belt actually flipped upside down in the CVT..wore down and broke.(I had the CVT cover off to watch the belt and CVT to see if I could figure out why the belt kept breaking..and when I revved it...the belt slide sideways then flipped upside down and finally smoked a bit and broke).. Also 16.6 is a bit narrow when most of the belts except the Bando are at least 18mm. So what I see so far is.. Belt is a tad too long(no biggie if you have an oversize performance variator such as the Koso..Hoca and Dr Pulley 99mm diameter ones) But too skinny of a belt and to steep of a bevel angle may be the problem.. Just my But I have been in the parts/repair business over 7 years and worked on many Scoots.. Glenn p.s. mixed up there. a 16.6 mm wide belt in that cvt, i read something about 17mm wide belt, somewhere. for that bike. maybe its right. that would along with the longer length give you kind of a slacky belt, with an more obtuse angle, that might push out and grab the sides a little. might seem a little slacky. the belt would. slack will wear otu the belt quicker too. just make sure they got slack.

The original belt is marked 16.6 x 792 no bevel angle markings. The replacement belt is marked 792 x 16.6 x 30 I measured the original belt and it only seems to be 775mm x 15.5 wide. The narrow width is probably due to wear. (1200 miles on belt) The replacement is on the scooter and will have to remove it to measure.

I would just take Docs word for it. Get the right belt and a less savage contra spring [img src=" i.imgur.com/lXb12c8.jpg" src=" " alt=" "] this is what i did to my CVT cover

Yeas Doc it's a long case minarelli Triton clone. 788 17 28 is what should be used in my experience. My scoot is a Eurostrada RX8 however it's not the Yamati version. From my understanding that motor has a one off 50cc cylinder and will not accept a 70cc but will accept a 90cc. 190 brought this to my attention at the start of my build thread My Strada.

So Doc your saying the scooter came with the wrong belt? I'm going buy what's marked on the original belt. Though I think they actual size is off from what's marked on it. What do you think about the Kevlar belts?
