Hi all, I have a TGB (Taiwan Golden Bee) 2007 r50x. It was having troubles, and my local mechanic has isolated the CDI as the issue. He has a new one there for sale, which he can install for low labor cost, which he quoted at $41.00 I know a lot about cycling, and which wheels, tires, chains, etc., are higher end, and which are no-name bargain-hunter quality. But with scooter parts, including CDI boxes, I have no clue. Amazon and online scooter parts sites tell me they can go from $10 to $80 for two-stroke 50cc engines. So, I don't assume the store is ripping me off. BUT: I can't tell whether the one he quoted over the phone is a higher-end one, or a lower-end one with lots of mark-up. I also dont think they have a range of options for sale, as good road bike shops always seem to have. seems like this is the only one. So... thought I'd ask you guys what going rates are for CDIs, and what defines whether one is pricey or bargain basement or in the middle. For example, maybe the fact that my scoot is a TGB r50x (not the most common scooter out there) explains the cost? I cant tell you the make of the CDI he has quoted, as he has not told me. But any guiding principles I should know ahead of time before I talk to him, would be greatly appreciated! tom

Sounds like an OK deal to me,we tested some Minarelli CDI boxes and found little difference from the stock stuff to the shiney finned blue box ones...
