I have a 49cc 2007 chinese scooter and the tail light stopped working last night also the dash board illumination light stopped same time. Both bulbs work. The brake light works fine. Their are 2 elements in the same brake/tail light bulb. Before the tail light stopped it would run off the stator electricity and the brake light would run off the battery. I checked the wiring diagram on line here but my colors are different. I found a plug at right rear of scooter that feeds the harness going to the rear light assembly. The brown wire in the plug goes to the tail light and so does a brown wire go to the illumination bulb socket on the dash. After looking at wiring diagrams that aren't exactly like mine I see that the yellow wire usually feeds the tail light.... so I jumped from a yellow wire that was in a socket that was not used by the scooter to the brown wire going to the tail light bulb. Now when the scooter is running the tail light works and the dash light works. I have no idea where the brown wire is suppose to get it's positive from as I checked all plugs for continuity that had a brown wire in rear and front. Do you think I will hurt the electrical system the way I fixed it? Does anyone know how and where that brown wire is suppose to get it's electricity?

Your going to have to trace it back and follow to see where it ends, it might go to the regulator that would be a start.

If you have a headlight/running light switch, then the brown wire would tie into that so it could be something wrong there.

some of the older scooters had different color wiring, it wasn't til later on when they started using a universal harness, there is probably a corroded connection at the point where the two lights get their power, it is a pain but you have to trace the brown wire to see where the starting point is, the starting point on my 2013 is behind the front plastic.
