Upgraded the main jet (80 from 74) put it back together and it ran good on the stand. Turned it off and adjusted the play out of the throttle cable. 20 hours later and it wont start with the choke on or off. I can hear the starter but theres no smell of fuel.

Is it possible you have the cable too tight and it's opening the slide?

I could try switching it back. Would that keep it from starting though?

If it's to tight and raising the slide it's the same as giving it throttle so yeah it could.

I was able to return the throttle cable to its previous condition but it didn't seem to make any difference b/c it still wouldnt start.
Are there any common mistakes that i could have made rejetting the carb? Is there a checklist of sorts? When i did the work i only removed the bowl to access the main jet. Could i have messed something up when i reassembled it since it worked before..so maybe its not the jet or throttle position thats the reason it wont start?
Thanks again guys. I just want it to work..thats all..

Try pulling the plug. It may have gotten flooded. If a piece of dirt got in the jet that could cause an issue. If cleaning and drying the plug doesn't do it you may want to clean the carb and jet with carb cleaner and compressed air.

Have you checked to make sure the vacuum petcock is working? If you suck on the vacuum hose at the end that goes to the carb with the fuel line off you should get fuel coming out the fuel line.

Dave,
There seems to be two hoses that attach to the "vacuum fuel tap". i take it that ones the fuel hose and the others the vacuum hose. Is there a way to tell which is which?
When i removed the carb bowl i used a clip to pinch both hoses closed so they didnt spew fuel everywhere. I also let the motor idle with the clip in place once..

The vacuum hose should come from the intake side of the carb the fuel from the other side(air filter side) if you suck on one and get fuel in your mouth it was the wrong one. Lol

Fuel usually comes in up top by the slide cover.
