So I took delivery of a Taotao ATM50, stripped off the body panels, and began draining the gear oil.
Surprise: only 120 ml drained out - despite tilting the scooter and, of course, removing the fill bolt.
Second surprise: after tilting the scooter to ease gear oil filling, every effort to add oil was thwarted. All oil immediately drained out the filling hole.
Any ideas?

Air bubble. The gear oil us thick enough to seal the fill hole or other interior areas of the gear box. Try spinning the rear wheel and burp the newborn like a good daddy. ;-) That's what comes to mind first, no different than blowing soap bubbles with the lil' hoop/wand thingy. Viscosity.
Wooo. That was a real big word for me...

Will do, Clank.
Just have to wait for fresh oil to finish draining. Darn it. Now the shipping oil and the break-in oil are doing the tango. Oh well.
No worries. Thanks Clank.

Still no joy. Spun wheel both directions for quite some time. Tried a bounce or two or three.
The mystery continues. Almost all of the new oil recovered. Still no sign of original gear oil other than the first 120 ml.
Hmmmm.

My 2t only takes 100 ml. Maybe 110.

Super-nincompoop-noob here. That's me.
Holy decimal point Batman. 110 not 1100.
Thanks for stepping in and setting me straight 2TDave.
Tiny print in "OWNER 'SMANUAL"[sic] states 0.11L - so we have proven my incompetence.
Mystery solved. Now on to more careful PDI.

I use a syringe with a small section of tubing on the end after measuring the correct amount of gear oil just draw it in and stick the tube in the fill hole makes easy work of it...

My first syringe attempt - a syringe from an ink refill kit - showed a slightly larger syringe would work better. The very small tip struggled to pass the thick oil.
I continue to strive to improve scooter tooling - so I seek a larger syringe and appropriate tubing.
