this winter during off season i will be doing some mods.
i want to add a stroker crankshaft which i believe is a +4.
i will be ordering the 94 link cam chain and some extra base gaskets.
i am also going to be installing a big valve head and 30mm carb.
adding a hoca performance transmission kit and 18T gears too.
i know how to set the cam timing with a stock crank but with the longer stroke
won't the cam timing be off if i set it like the stock crank with the T?
i will be using an A14 cam so i am not sure if that makes a difference.
i am expecting close to 20hp out of the build when it is done.

i would think it should be the same as a stock crank, It will still have only 360* rotation.so top dead center is still top dead center just a little higher/lower in the bore . but the issue i would be concerned about is the piston makeing contact with the head or valves, you may need a spacer under the jug

i will be doing the job on snow days, i don't have snow tires for it.
i found the cam that is needed, it is set up to keep the valves open the right length of time for the longer travel.

Set it up same as a stock cam timing. The Cam turns at 1/2 the speed of the crank..the timing chain link count is an even number to assure it does not change timing...odd number chain link count would add or subtract a degree or so with each revolution. Also the A14 Cam is a low end high torque cam..typically used on quads and utv's that need low end stump pulling..swamp crossing power. The A10 cam is for increased mid range and top end. The numbers are confusing cause many think the higher the number..the higher the speed and power. But that is not the case.. Just my  Glenn |

i never used a longer crank and i was doing as much research as i could before i got one, i was told you had to have a cam that held the valves open longer and i could not figure out how it would do that, i can see opening them farther or less but not longer.
i appreciate your help and i decided not to bother with the crank, it has plenty of power without going that route.
it is not a 150 it is a 180 using a 24mm carb from a 150.

correction i have a 26mm carb not a 24mm, will be going with a 30mm for the 63mm piston.
i don't live in michegan i am in connecticut and i don't understand the last part of your post.
i am still learning about the 157QMJ engines, up until recently all i worked on was 139QMB.
the +6 crank would give me a true 200cc engine and a hell of a lot of acceleration at a cost that is prohibitive.
i read from your post that it is the gearing on the cam that makes it work, i couldn't figure out what it was.
i had it stuck in my head it was the height of the lobes and not the gear so thank you for the help with that.
my best option is to just buy a 250cc scooter if i want that much power, there is a point where the cost becomes too high and i don't want to reach that point.

From my small block Chevy days cams have two measurements. Lift and duration. Lift is the hight of the lobe so to speak and duration the width which in turn is the amount of time the valve is open.

if i was to do the upgrade with a +6 crank and Taida T-300 cam i would have to make it liquid cooled to handle the upgrade, i don't think you can air cool a performance 200cc without it overheating.
i may be wrong about that.
i do a lot of 50cc to 100cc upgrades for people with good results and have never done a stroker crank.
when it comes to a 150 there are a lot of differences, i bought the 180cc kit and a heavy duty stock size crank, the kit came with a different cam and chain and says it is a super HP head whatever that means.
the valves appear to be the same size, it does have a lot of torque and top end, i added 15/37 gears and got it up to 60 GPS on flat road and if i go into the red on tach i can go above 60 but engine is still too new.
i want to add a hoca transmission kit and use 16g rollers and also a 30mm carb for the larger piston.
my carb does work but i was told it needs a 30mm to get the full benefit from the 180cc.
i modified a new stock exhaust and got good results, my stock exhaust blew off at the flange, it broke the weld.
not sure if i should just get a performance exhaust, seems to run fine with the one it has now.

the cam i have is a T-300 not an A10 or A14, not sure what the difference is, i have a Hoca stroker crank that matches the engine kit i built just have to put it together. thank you for the help |
