so i bought this tao tao 49cc it has about 3k miles on it, the person i bought it from said all it needed was an oil change and should be good to go. i went to try and get it started today, thankfully it has an electric starter so i didn't have to sit there and kick it. i tried probably 10 times starting it, nothing so i then removed the air filter and sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb, i left the intake off and tried starting, nothing i then saw that a hose was cracked leading to the intake manifold connecting the carb to the motor so swapped it out and then sprayed some more carb cleaner and then put the intake back on, it started for like 2-3 seconds and then died out tried starting after and nothing, so my guess is that it could need new gas or the intake manifold cause theres a hole in it, you can see in the pics below

To see if it'll idle put duct tape over crack make sure there no air pockets

The smell of the gas may give you a clue if it's old.
That could be the vacuum line leading to the fuel petcock. If so maybe it's still trying to prime the carb now that it has vacuum again.

Check the valve gaps and then try it. If it still doesmn't wanna run after adjusting the valves, the drain and fill the gas tank with fresh gas, drain the carb of the old gas, then if it still doesn't wanna run, buy a can of carb cleaner spray, remove, disassemble and clean the carburetor paying special attention to the idle jet. It's small and has a very tiny hole running through it that MUST BE CLEAR. A single bristle from a wire brush works good for un-clogging it. Spray out every single hole in the entire carburetor that you can find. Main jet and spray nozzle Idle jet

Sounds like you're using the starter a lot. One thing you may not be aware of....or might... Starters get hot very quickly during cranking and can over heat. A rule of thumb is for every minute spent cranking, give it 15 minutes to cool off. That doesn't mean crank it for five minutes then allow an hour and 15 minutes to cool. That means only crank for one minute MAX.... then allow at least 15 minutes to cool If the windings get too hot the solder connections and laminate can deteriorate. But then again, starters are cheap and easy to replace so who cares As far as the problem...you got great advice already

so i just did the valve adjustment and cleaned out the carb, still not running
old gas is still in there i don't know if thats the problem but ill siffen it out tomorrow
i also put duct tape over the open area, i might just go to the scooter junk yard and take a carb and intake manifold off of one.
so what should i do next?

For sure try new gas. drain the old gas out of the carb too. If you suck on the vacuum line to the petcock for 10-15 seconds it will fill the carb. with fresh gas and save the battery and starter cranking to fill it.
What's it feel like when you work the kick start real slow with your hand? The amount of resistance will tell you if you have any compression at all. It should fight you fairly strong. If the compression feels weak or non-existent then that points toward bad valves or bad rings.

Well if you have spark and compression then it's a fuel issue most likely. When you cleaned the carb did you remove the mixture screw and shoot carb spray through that passage? When the idle jet is clear you can spray carb spray in one end and it will come out of the other end.
How's the spark look?

How's the spark look? definently has spark cause it started briefly for like 2 seconds 2 days ago and the problem wight the carb is that the almost all the screws on it were threaded so i couldn't take it apart so just shot some carb cleaner through the middle and thats about it. im gonna go to the scooter junkyard and look for the best carb and intake manifold and pull it off and then try that.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Get one you can take apart and clean it out and I betcha you'll be scooting shortly thereafter.
