:swear: some one please help me. i have a 50cc znen scooter. 3000 miles on it. after driving 40 something miles to get a replacement headlight bulb, and driving back i parked my scooter. I came out an hour later to go to the store and started it up to let it warm up. 30 seconds later it died and wouldn't start again. i noticed a small puddle of oil underneath. i drained all the oil. put new oil in. cleaned the air filter. put a new spark plug in. it still wont start. the spark plug didn't have the typical "nipple" you normally see. instead it looked like the end of a skinny bolt. there was nothing for the spark plug wire to click into. any help would be greatly appreciated. this is my means of transportation, and it sucks not having it run.

Welcome to the forum. First off, find a "nipple" for the plug. You can unscrew one from an old plug and screw it on the new one. You need good contact there to ensure a reliable spark. After that, I'd suggest going through this thread... 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=basicstuff&action=display&thread=647&page=1If you can't solve it by going through the steps there, tell us what you have learned from tests mentioned there and we can be of even more assistance. Did you determine where the oil was coming from? Was it a bunch of oil that ended up leaking from the airbox or was it a drain plug loose or did it look like a gasket might be shot or...?

Hello and welcome!
I'm a scooter mechanic in the Los Angeles area. I can have a look at it for you if you like. I can transport it to my shop or look at it right there at your place. If you decide you need a pro, shoot me a private message with your number and I'll call you to set up a day and time. I'm booked up Mon. and Tue. so tomorrow or Wed. will work for me.

thanks guys for the info. in the end, i found out that the problem was the spark plug cap.it was all hard and fell apart. Chinese plastic + Chinese plug = a headache
what mods can i do to make my scoot faster? i saw a 70cc big bore kit and a 100cc kit will iridium plugs, high performance coil, fuel pump, air intake, and exhaust give me alot of oomph? or do i need to do the clutch springs and roller weights too?

still dont know where the oil came from. i (stupidly) ran 3000 miles on the factory fish oil. checked the oil one day, it was almost bone dry, only took a little less than 3/4 of a quart. than night i changed the oil with a synthetic blend. this morning when i got the scooter running, i changed the oil again. using synthetic blend.it seems to be holding its level rather well now. i dont know where the oil leaked from though. seems to have stopped.

70cc BBK is the best bang for the buck and it's probably gonna be more reliable than the larger 80cc+ kits. Iridium plugs and coils are good for a more reliable spark, but not usually good for much/any performance increase. Stock fuel pump is usually fine. Free flow air filters and exhaust systems offer small gains. Some of the mods listed will likely require rejetting the carb. I'd leav ethe clutch springs alone for sure on a stock scoot. I never liked the stiffer springs much even on my heavily modded 80cc. Tuning the roller weights or slider weights is essential to keep the scoot performing at it's best with any engine setup.

Nice going getting it running. The cheapest way to boost a stock 50cc 4 stroke is installing lighter weights in the variator. They won't increase top speed but they will increase your take-off power and hill climbing power so you get up to speed faster. I used 16x13mm 4.5 gram Dr. Pulley sliding weights in my stock 50cc variator with the stock contra spring in the rear pulley with good results. I weigh 220lbs. Are you over or under 175 lbs. ? If you are under 175 lbs., then the 5 gram weights should work well for you. shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=Dr.+Pulley+16x13&_sacat=0&_odkw=Dr.+Pulley&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Yeah that's common. It's the clutch pads screeching on the clutch bell. Once you get going and the pads grab hold of the bell firmly it stops. It's really nothing to worry about.

update... i got the scooter running... it actually runs better than before... i am researching bbk around 72cc. My znen will get me to 38ish on flat and level, but down hill i have the needle pegged past 40. the znen website said i can derestrict my scoot but it didnt tell how. what exactly is that and how (if i even should) do i do it? uphill, sucks. and i regularly ride around with my girl. we live in hollywood and hills are everywhere. we are both smaller people. me 160 her 100. well below the 320 lb weight limit. some guy at a dealership said among the chinese scoots, i chose one of the top brands. i was told that the largest i could go without having to machine the casing was 80cc(actually 72) what is the best "all inclusive" kit. approx how many miles will i get out of it. i bought the scoot brand new beginning of november. i already have 3100 miles on it. is that abnormally high?

Having good spark helps alot doesn't it. Go with the sliders as Fox said for that performance boost on the hills. Your guage probably reads MPH in miles, but the miles on it are probably in kilometers.

Wait, the pro reads in Km? Damn. That makes sense, but it had not occured to me. So much for my 116 miles per gallon.

Makes it about 72.08 mpg, which is still not bad. Just google, 116 km to miles, gives you your total.

UPDATE....my scoot wont start AGAIN... I,like an idiot, left my scooter out in the rain and forgot to put a cover on. now it wont start... any ideas? is there water in my engine and now i am screwed? is it time for that bbk?
also how do i adjust the rear brake? since i tore the bike apart the first time last week, the rear break seems real weak.
and is it the valves that need adjusting if my scooter bogs down and sometimes dies when i give it gas from a dead stop. or is it just because it's cold?
