You guys had me wondering, so I did some math. If the filler hose has an ID of 1/2 inch and is 8 feet long, it would only hold about 10.5 oz, or about a third of a quart (less than a 10th of a gallon). Of course the total tube-length could be much more than that, but even if it's twice that long, which I doubt, then it's still not that much gas. So you were right to be skeptical. I thought it would be a lot more.
In other news, my girl got me a sweet LeoVince exhaust for christmas! I'm super stoked. I'll install it tomorrow, and do a bit of before & after testing.

Even running setups on the edge of spark knock, I've never had much trouble with pumps using a single hose for all grades of fuel. It's always best to stay a little more on the safe side for street scoots though.

When I originally did the math after I got my scoot, I assumed an ID of 1" and a length of 10', which comes out to around a half-gallon - pretty much half my tank. I guessed those sizes based on the hoses at my local Costco, my preferred filling stop for my car. They've got huge, long hoses that'll reach around to the far side of a Hummer. Just clicking around on the internet, it looks like gas-pump hoses are made in several sizes, but they START at 3/4" and go up from there. According to this wsj article, the average gas hose holds about 1/3 gallon, a little less than my Costco calculation. There's several 76 stations and a couple of Shell stations in my area that still have dedicated hoses for each grade, so I use them just to be safe. It certainly knocks plenty on takeoff, even with the stock timing and 92 octane, so I'm... nervous.

I should try a gallon of the 108 racegas we use in the MR2. I wonder if it would still knock. I hear it on mine too and it just *feels* wrong.
There used to be a sunoco that sold 103 around here but last time I checked they didn't have it.

Hmmm, I don't recall seeing 103 since they removed the lead from our fuel.

A Sunoco near here used to sell GT100. It's been gone for a few years though. Easiest way to get it here is from powersports stores.

Hmmm, I don't recall seeing 103 since they removed the lead from our fuel. Oh, it's still around. Even 110 unleaded is a pretty common race fuel. Not as common as 114 leaded, but close. I've seen 110 unleaded from VP, Trick, and 76 at least. Racing shops sometimes sell it by the drum, and race tracks with gas pumps will often have it. It's not a street-legal fuel, though. There's so much MMT in it, it'll eventually foul oxygen sensors and catalytic converters - just not as quickly as lead will. You'll see little reddish deposits on spark plugs of cars that've been running it. I wonder if it would still knock. I hear it on mine too and it just *feels* wrong. That low RPM knock sure does feel wrong when it's happening, but it goes away on mine after it's rolling, and I don't hear a knock at speed, so I'm just gonna ignore it. I'll ride it on 92 octane, and if it dies, I'll buy a new engine and do an autopsy on the old.
