I hate to revive an old thread but the Armor is changing and getting cheaper with technology, and I don't think it a terrible reminder.
I have worn the spectrum...Shorts and T-shirt as a kid on my old P200 riding like my hair was on fire. Now: Helmet, gloves, jeans, boots and armored jacket.
To my point, I picked up a Speed & Strength jersey type "Lunatic Fringe" for $45 off ebay...it has shoulder, spine and elbow pads...no chest. It is surprisingly comfortable in 90+, the material flows a lot of air.

Either a white or bight green shirt, shorts or my workpants, motorcycle gloves and shoes. Half helmet and glasses. I live in a small town with one stoplight where the traffic is slow. I can't imaging riding in big city traffic, I don't think I would on a 50cc.

When going more than 1/4 mile from home I wear my leather cycle jacket that was very expensive (over $200) 22 years ago. I always wear boots and I have a nice half helmet that is a good compromise with cooling and protection. I had been looking at some cycle gloves with the little armor pieces on them and some are about $20 so, I will get a pair soon...I hope. Always Jeans or my BDU's (when going to work) never shorts although, the long pants will only stop the road rash for the first 1/4 second...maybe.
Yes, folks have made fun of me at stop lights for wearing "so much gear" on a "measly 50cc scooter" but they usually shut up when I pull out my pistol...OK, just kidding...they usually shut up when I tell them if they don't have anything worth protecting, then that is fine by me. It sometimes takes them a block or two before they realize that they might have been insulted, ha ha.

Helmet is a must. Required by law in MD, but I've worn one since my first crash on a scooter within a year of owning a scoot. Felt how hard the asphalt was on the rest of my body, didn't think it was a good idea to bounce my head off of it.
I wear gloves on all rides. I don't have any fancy carbon knuckle stuff yet, but even the thin ones with a mesh back for summer have leather palms to help with road rash at least.
I always wear a jacket these days. Probably started that 100% of the time 5 years ago or so. I just bought my third jacket roughly a month ago, a First Gear textile touring style jacket for $100 on clearance. Added an approved back protector for another $30. Haven't worn it yet, because it seems to be better suited to cold weather. It's my 2nd jacket from New Enough/MotorcycleGear.Com. Check them out if you are looking for something cheap. My first from them was a Joe Rocket Ballistic that was regularly $400 and I got for $80. A lot of it isn't the current year line, but I don't care. Can't always find an amazing deal on what you want, but something will come along sooner or later. I've worn that Joe Rocket jacket for the better part of 10 years and it had enough options to work well for about 80 degrees and below. I crashed in it once and tore some of it up, but not enough to stop using it. Can't argue with it for the cost, and it has CE approved armor. My summer day jacket is a First Gear mesh jacket with some armor. You're going to sweat a little when it's hot, with or without a jacket, most likely. Once I sweat at all, the mesh jacket usually feels fairly cool when moving so it's not as bad as you'd think. Stopped in traffic, that's a different story.
I always wear long pants. Should wear at least denim jeans, but I wear cargo pants a lot. I'd like to get a set of inconspicuous riding pants, but the ones in suitable sizes for me seem to end up being more than I want to spend.
My other weakness is shoes. I know I should wear over ankle boots, but I almost always wear athletic shoes. About the only time I wear my boots is in the winter on very cold rides, because they'll do a better job of keeping my toes warm. I used to wear boots all of the time when I was younger, but I got used to sneakers and now I don't find them comfortable. You'd think I would have learned my lesson when my foot, oops, shoe flew off in my first crash and I sprained my foot.
I had a small group of people in swimwear point and laugh at me at the beach a month or so ago. Couldn't tell you if it's all the gear on a hot day or on a scooter or the fact that I'm huge on the scooter. I didn't really care. I was too busy bikini watching. lol

As much as the "ATGATT" guys can get annoying, I still live by it. I wear an Element FastTrack (fullface) helmet, MotoBoss AirApeed4 jacket, jeans, Mechanix gloves, and Corcoran boots, whether I'm going around the block or riding for q few hours, and rarely get *too* incredibly hot.
Layer down a scoot second day I had it (I ride mountain bikes a bunch and the brakes are opposite) due to locking the front brake and had only a helmet on, so its full gear for me.

Got skinned up prety bad last fall (no pun intended). No gear. Nothing. Just jeans and a T. Was test riding a scooter in the parking lot just a few houses down. Never expected anything like that to happen but I was doing about 20 down the lot when a car just backed up right in my path and I went down on slippery asphalt, sliding to a stop.
Knee, forearms, palms all bloodied, gravel embedded in my palms. When you least expect it. Crap took over 2 months to heal.
Once you feel the pain, protective gear seems less trouble. Even for stupid short trips.

My fall was on a "did I make it worse" ride, literally less than 100yards round trip.

I always wear helmet, gloves and jacket. I normally wear my leather trousers on the bike. Have some bull it kevlar jeans which are good but £130. Had my last leather jacket about 14 years, so just brought a new one.
Please don't end up like this guy!

So who can suggest some armor that won't have me passing out from heat when sitting in traffic in downtown Savannah in July?

So who can suggest some armor that won't have me passing out from heat when sitting in traffic in downtown Savannah in July? I bought a Speed & Strength "Lunatic Fringe" jersey this spring. I been riding it in the high 90's here...seems to be OK when moving, doesn't really feel like your wearing a jersey....not sure anything is great when stopped. I like it enough I am considering buying another.

What is the padding in it like? Back, shoulders, elbows? Do the pads stay where they belong?
Edit.... Just checked it out. I see why I ignored it before. Without a paid sponsorship I won't rock logos that big. Also not a fan of pullovers.
I have an Xelement mesh jacket that I don't wear because over about 75 out its still too hot and the elbow pads don't stay over my elbows. I've been thinking about sewing one.neoprene elbow compression sleeves into to fix that.
I ride to work. Don't look very professional when I get there drenched to the bone with sweat.

The S&S has shoulder, back and elbow armor. It is a looser fit...probably why it is more comfortable. That being said, there are pads on top of the elbow armor for protection...so after it settles into position I have protection from above my elbow to almost my wrist. I wear business causal and wear it to work as long as it isn't raining, but its only a couple miles.
If interested I have seen a few YouTube videos demoing that specific jersey
