I use 87. Have any of you used 92 or 93 before and seen an improvment in all round speed?
Also have anyone used racing 107-108 octane racing fuel?
I think racing fuel would burn to hot and burn the top side of the motor.

I use the max octane I can find. Usually around 93. These scooters take such little gas that to me it's just a bit of added insurance. Last time I got gas to top it off cost around $1.58..

I run 91 in all bikes. And my cages as well. I occasionally run 107 in my car but thats for another conversation LOL. The higher the octane rating the less volatile the fuel is.... Meaning it takes more heat to ignite the higher octane fuel, which allows you to run more timing or more boost safely.

Thanks birdman, saved my breath on octane. One small addition to clarify, 85 has just as much power as 107. You wont gain any speed by swapping octane unless your scoots already pinging/knocking(doubtful). I usually run shell 91 in my scoot because of the cleaning additives they add. Only de-carboned(@4000miles) my kit once in 6000 miles() and it didn't really need it then. Still fairly clean now as well.

87 octane, never put anything different in my scoot.
even with a high compression squish head I don't get knock.

I usually run 93; 92 if I can't find 93. I ran a tank of 100LL a week or 2 ago. All it accomplished was better fuel economy. There is a place near by that sells 100 non ethanol unleaded gas which I will probably fill up with next week. $9 a gallon :\

I normally use euro95. I guess thats 95RON. We also have 98 from the pump and some gasstations have (or seperatly sell) racing fuel 102 octane. Don't think 102 octane comes from the pump but i don't know for sure.
When i have my axis running again with the athena cdi im changing to 98 because of the extra advance from the cdi.

I use 91-93 in all of mine. Most of them are built with higher than standard compression and may have altered timing. I found that even my TaoTao stock would spark knock on occasion though, and that was on 91-93. With a tune up it didn't really happen anymore. I believe that the engine was under a heavier load with the CVT keeping revs down. May not help that I'm heavy and find little use for less than WOT on the 4T. If you can use 87 and don't hear spark knock, go for it. There's no need for you to pay for premium.
I've used race gas in small engines, but the only one that I used it in every time was a 15:1 compression 2T in a pocket bike. I used to add xylene and toluene to my fuels for scooters at times, but the real solution for a street vehicle that goes more than around the block is to make your engine conform to the constraints of pump gas IMO. Otherwise it's difficult to refuel on the road.

Just wondering, my compression is at 138psi(with 1.2mm of squish) and from what I hear thats the low end of compression for 2 strokes. Been planning on getting .5mm shaved off the head to bring squish closer to ideal spec. I'm just slightly worried about having too much compression afterwords. I'm seeing how much I can squeeze out of a 50cc, 53mph so far and at altitude (5200ft).
Non-ethanol gas should give ya a bit of a boost, as gas has more energy in it than ethanol does.
Also I can run currently 85 without any knock, I just like the cleaners the 91 has.

Yup I like Shell's "V-power", 76 with "proclean" is my second choice. Chevron is junk!

Ive just started using Premium unleaded 97 octane. Expensive but it's only a small tank.

Suffice it to say no one wants to listen to my qualifications in this field but although my family has been in the fuel business since 1923,I did not take over the business on my Dad's passing,my sister's husband did.But I lived it throughtout childhood til I left for the Army. I attended hundreds of lavish conferences with Dad to listen to detail and Texaco propaganda and eat fine food.A.Higher octane fuel burns cooler than lower octane for the reason stated earlier besides preventing pre ignition, running cooler means less loss of power when air cooled engines get hot,so to say 87 will render the same performance as say 100 is a misnomer. The other myth I would like to dispell.Texaco is for all purposes dead but they were the only fuel company to refine and sell their own product.Every other fuel company buys off the "open market" in other words your "clean" Shell or junky Chevron could well be the same fuel. Before I chose to get an education at Unk's expensive I probably hauled a million gallons of gas out of the same refinery in Robinson.Il.to every major company distriburtorship in NW In. and south Chicago
