What's the best motor oil to use in these little scoots all suggestions are welcome. And tranny oil. Also I've heard ppl say they use the same oil in both motor and tranny is that good?

I use 5w50 full synthetic for engine and 75w90 full synthetic for gears. In my opinion these oils are perfect for small air cooled engines with high temperature fluctuations. Buying the car gear oil is much cheaper than that so called special gear oil for scooters.

I use royal purple 5w30 motorcycle engine oil and royal purple 75w90 gear oil. I've had good experience with both in my car and y past motorcycles. I also use the gear oil in my 2 stroke and I put the engine oil and gear oil in my gy6. The gear oil is great on the 2 stroke, before it have a bit of a gear whine when I was slowing down or hit the max speed. But now there is nothing and it runs so smooth. Mind you royal purple is a tad expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

Rule of the thumb: Olive oil wont make your scooter a Lambretta.

Not sure what the absolute best is, but synthetics. I just use cheap Shell Rotella-T 15W40 in the engine and change it often (every 500 miles), but I use Mobil 1 75W90 gear oil for the final drive transmission.

You can use motor oil in the gearbox, but I prefer to use an oil designed for a gearbox. A qt of good gear oil will last a long time.

Thanks Brent I just wanted to know because until he told me of that I was sure that it was supposed to be 2 separate oils and I argue him down like why would that be if they have specially made oil for the tranny. Hey all, I’m trying to find 15W40 for my Wolf RX50 and they all either say they’re for diesel engines or for for European cars. Are these two oils one and the same? Is there a third that’s just for regular gasoline engines? Which one might my owners’ manual be specifying? Thanks in advance.

European petrol engine cars are just regular gasoline cars. 🙈 You can get 15w 40 motorcycle oil, but most manufacturers have moved over to using 10w 40. In scooters without a wet clutch, gasoline 15w 40 would be fine. The diesel oil has more cleaning additives to combat the soot.

I use rotella t6 synthetic I get a gallon jug for 22 bucks I change it to be honest I'm not really sure how many miles but I would guess around 800. Usually if I'm low I'll just change it instead of just adding I just really change it at random but very frequently. I will say I get louder valve train noise with the synthetic over same weight conventional assuming bc the synthetic is thinner. I use 80 90 weight synthetic gear oil it does tend to have a bit more gear whine with the synthetic gear oil but it's thinner and has less friction loss. The special motorcycle cvt oil is expensive bc it has additives for wet clutch's and is not needed for dry clutch set ups.

I just did my first oil and gear oil change on my new 150cc at 16mi. Took it REEEAAALL slow at first with that cheap shipping oil. Now, am continuing break in w 4t Maxima "mineral" based 3 parts and Royale Purple Cycle Max 1 part, both 10w-40. In the gear box, put RP 75w90 and will use same products again, parts reversed at bout 75mi. Hope That gear oil will be ok, know should be 80w90, but RP is so good, I just went ahead. Heard great things about Amsoil. Can anyone chime in on how this might go for me? Thnx...
