Brought her home last night (and it was a COLD first ride by Florida standards)! Here she is:

She's a great looking thing. She rides pretty good too. Slow of course, but this is my girl's bike. I don't know what model it is really. Its a 50cc 4T for sure. The title says 02 but the build date says '05 (and the seller thought it was an '06, lol). In the penultimate pic above you can see the broken glovebox door. I started looking around for that online today. No luck yet. It would probably help to know what year and model scoot I have. Any ideas?

Eh, mostly. She's developing a system. We actually just got back from a ride around town. She drove, and I kept my feet up at stops. She's handling it pretty well. She just needs to get more confidence in general if she ever wants to actually go anywhere on it. But she will.

I've come to suspect that the CVT on this thing needs some.serious tuning. The belt may be slipping until it gets hot, because after a couple miles it gains an extra 8 mph of top.speed. It did the same thing last night. Or it may be a clutch thing, because it seems to take a lot of throttle/revs to get it moving from a stop. Either way I need to open up the tranny & see what's up.

I also need to change her oils. The PO said "it's actually a sealed unit and you're not supposed to change its oil. You can't even check it without taking the engine out." Seriously. At that point I pulled out the dip stick.

I just changed the oil, fixed the broken seat compartment latch release, and adjusted the rear brakes to make them, well, work. Then I rode around for a bit.

I find this thing just delightful. It's too slow, but it feels sprightly within its limited speed range. On Sunday we both went out riding, each on our own bikes, which was great fun. Except of course for when I learned that her stock Vespa is already faster than my modded Kymco. This will not do. I like her bike. We'll be keeping it around for a while. My Kymco on the other hand, may be headed to a new home soon. I think it's time for me to get the motorcycle endorsement and a 150.

Well I've started doing that, so far with little to show for it, speed wise. I figure by the time I've got the intake, BBK, CDI, and a properly rejetted carb I'll have spent what the ME class costs, and then some. I always make fun of the kids who bolt thousands of dollars worth of crap to a Civic to convince it to be a sports car. Just start with a sports car, I always say.

But the Kymco has its charms. I just think a 150cc Kymco would have a lot more of them.

I'm actually thinking about a Piaggio BV200. There's a nice one for sale locally. A nice Kymco in the 150+ range would be ideal, but I haven't seen one in the last several weeks. I really want a 70mph scooter so that no roads are off limits. As much as I like the Agility, I don't think even the big one goes that fast.
