I bought my scooter in Florida while on vacation. Not only was it rusty from the salt air,it also had black mold and mildew showing through the vinyl seat. I don't want to use bleach or products containing bleach for fear of ruining the color and deteriorating the stitching. Any suggestions as to how to remove the stains? Thanks

the vinyl is moldy? you could try to match the vinyl to another piece and just reupholster it, will probably look better and hold up better

Fantastic , 409 etc. Will cleanup mold/mildew. Bought a scoot (motofino) that sat under a cover/tarp. For months . Way yucky black mold/mildew. Sprayed it down with spraynine. & hosed off. Didn't have a issue with fade etc. But if mold is in the foam creaping out. You got a problem. Usually bleach or bleach based products will kill severe mold.that im aware of

The mildew is in the texture of the vinyl. I don't think it has penetrated to the foam. I really do not want to re-upholster the seat because it has the Derbi logo on the sides. I am afraid to try a bleach based cleaner because it may discolor the seat. I bought some stuff called "Krud Kutter" mold and mildew cleaner that is bleach free.I will try that and post the results. Thanks

I will test it on an area under the seat before using it. Thanks for the info. I was checking some of the boating forums and someone on there recommended it.

I think you need to completely kill the mildew first. UV sunlight can do that or a chemical cleaner. Then, I think if you don't want to re-upholster it, you might need to try to use a vinyl dye.
But one of the other problems is that those spots are where the mildew has weakened the fabric and sometimes makes it tear easily. I guess it depends. I haven't had a whole lot of success myself getting deep mildew stains out of vinyl seats.
If you have good success I'm sure others would like to know how you did it and what worked.
Good luck. Before and after photos?

I will try to get some photos. Some of the boating forums had some good suggestions. They would have problems with the seats getting mildewed during off season storage. Some of the products are boat specific and could not be found at local stores.

I picked up some Atwood mold and mildew remover today at a Walmart in Florida in the boating section. I have been reading some boating forums because the boaters have more problems with it than us scooter guys. I have been unable to find it in Maryland anywhere. I will give it a try and let everyone know how it works. It was highly recomended by the boaters and was less than $7.

Also use a soft bristle brush like a tooth brush to get in the crevices. I've used Simple Green with some pretty amazing results on mold and mildew.
Also try some white vinegar with water in a spray bottle. Works excellent and Cheap!
