Drilled some larger holes in the CVT cover and painted stuff red today. I hate the red. Somehow I magically gained 4mph.That puts me at 42mph top now. I'm assuming it's a direct response to the belt staying cooler and not expanding so much. The new Keihin carburetor is really becoming a PITA to tune. Scoot wants to backfire/pop a lot when I let go of the throttle after riding any duration at WOT. I'm beginning to think my timing is a little off. Could that also cause the vibration I'm feeling? I know that could affect my lack of takeoff speed and top speed drastically. I'm checking my timing tomorrow.

See if you have any exhaust leaks. Those will cause backfiring. Could also be the carb tune.

Look at your plug, but my first thought would be lean.

You like the red better than the white? I wanted that red a little darker. It's too hot. The white looked ok but it was a PITA to keep clean.

See if you have any exhaust leaks. Those will cause backfiring. Could also be the carb tune. Ok. So I've done a little experimenting. I replaced the #80 main jet with a #85. Same thing. Pops when I let go of the throttle. Spark plug looks a nice brown. I reduced the airflow with some masking tape to see if that would do anything. Idle improved but when I opened the throttle it acts insane. Sputters and backfires like crazy. I took the airflow completely off and that stopped, but it runs like crap at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. Replaced my original modification to airflow. Needle was set to richest condition from factory. Moved the circlip on the needle one notch up. Same crap. Driving me nuts. It runs fine at cruising speeds but at a dead stop/idle it seems like it's misfiring (like every now and then it completely misses combustion). This started happening when I installed the new Keihin carburetor. No exhaust leaks. This is so frustrating!
