Lots of work done today.

This is what my bike looked like two days ago. I wanted to shorten the muffler and take out some of the packing to give it a deeper sound. Also wanted to repaint some things.


Muffler work was simple enough. Took it off of the bike....


Drilled out the rivets....




Popped the end off and pulled out the glass packing....





Cut the barrel in half and repacked the desired amount of glass...







Painted it black with VHT gloss black....



Re-rivet and BAM!!




This looks WAY better IMO and sounds much better too. This is one of the $80 mufflers from eBay. Just in case anyone was wondering how to make it a shorty, this should help.

I installed the RPM gauge today. What a PITA. I hate plastics. Looks good and seems to work good too.



I also installed a 50mm piston with HOCA rings today. Got the A-9 cam installed along with a 1.5k contra and the 1k clutch springs too. I was going to do the entire stage 3 kit from STG today but found out I need a different oil pump. Pump ordered and I'll install it asap. HUGE difference between this piston kit and the cheap 47mm I got. Acceleration is pretty nuts. I love the power it has now. Cruising 35mph gps at half throttle...lol.

The Keihin 20mm carb is a POS. The knockoff I got works better and takes real Keihin jets. The needle is bigger, the atomizer is bigger. It's just a better carb IMO. I can't seem to get that 20mm Keihin tuned right to save my life. I'm sure it's probably something simple but I was tired of messing with it. This scooter is turning into a really nice setup. I really am enjoying myself and the rewards that come with all the hard work.

Still not done yet and probably never will be. Next I want to shave the handlebars and get some nitrogen RFY shocks to lower the rear a little more. There's 12 inch shocks on it now. I plan on getting 9 1/2 inch shocks. Probably going to lower the front too but I'm not sure yet....

Very nice! I love the way that shorty muffler looks. Glad I went with the the 50mm bbk then as well from your experience lol. And you're right, cruising at 35mph at 1/2 throttle is pretty nice. Ha.

You should hear it man!

It's just crazy how much more power this setup has. You wouldn't think 3mm would make much of a difference but it really does.

Not sure what the max speed is yet. Gotta break it in. I broke 2 belts today. My starter bendix is chewing my belts. I took it out. If I have to kick start it then so be it. Not worth having to replace belts all the time. I'll post some video soon.

Were these Bando or Gates belts or some cheap Chinese replacements? Asking because cheap Chinese belts are known to fail, very quickly at times.

Just grab a Gates or a Bando and be done with it dude. And those eBay belts are OEM replacements. I didn't see the word kevlar anywhere.

My first step would be to purchase a Bando or two, Gates is OK I guess but I've had the best luck with Bandos. I purchased some cheap belts years ago and all of the sudden 2 of my scoots that I was using them on were constantly snapping belts. I went through all kinds of things trying to find the cause and still had belts snapping sometimes within 10 miles from new. I bought Bando belts again, put them on, and the problems immediately stopped. I don't trust the cheap belts at all.

PFS has the 729 18 30 Bando (part # 106-97) for about $28, but you may be able to find it cheaper.

I got a bando this morning. It's 729 18 30 but I don't think it will make too much of a difference being a little wider. the scooter shop I got it from said they use it on all their long case engines and they work great. We will see.
