Right now i'm looking at a 2001 Kymco People 50 scooter with 6400 miles and i'm also looking at a 2006 Honda Metropolitan with 12181 miles. The Kymco's spedometer goes up to 60 and the Honda only goes up to 40. Which scooter is the better option? They're both in good condition and they're the same price.

I'd say the Honda. Better resale value. That Kymco isn't going to see those speeds either so I wouldn't factor that speedo into the equation.

Both scoots are built similar and are nice solid quality. The metropolitan is nice if your looking for that soft shaped retro style and the Kymco is a modern design which looks great. I would take the Kymco in a heartbeat over the honda. Imo the honda tried too hard to copy the Yamaha Vino and failed by making it too art deco. If the Kymco is a 2 stroke (I think they were) you shouldnt even be contiplating this choice. Get the Kymco!

Ya bro that Kymco is a 2 stroke- get it! I'd rather be buzzing around on a 2 stroke anyday over a 4 poke- even if it is a Honda...

Are you kinda tall? Metro's are on the small side.

Which one of the two is going to last longer and which is the more reliable. I heard metro tend to run forever. Also which one would be easier to find parts for? I'm 6'1. Am i too big for the metro?

Both are great brands and both are really reliable. Kymco has half the mileage. It may be a 2001, but I bought 2006 scooter with 800 miles and it wears the same as a 2015 with 800 miles. Kymco is 2 stroke so more power and more potential. I do like the metro's look better though

I went and checked out the kymco today and I looked like it was in good shape but the seller wouldn't let me test drive it cause he didn't want me to crash it. It didn't get to feel her out but he drove it around in front of me. Is it a red flag that he wouldn't let me test her out??

I wouldn't say a red flag but there is potential to hide something but I doubt it.
Offer him some sort of substantial collateral for a short test drive in his neighborhood.
If he still doesn't let you test drive, I would pass. He's obviously not wanting to sell it to you.

As a Kymco 2t owner Im partial and can vouch for their quickness. A 4t scoot will get better gas milage but are so slow and boring (IMO) unless you dump some usually heafty dough into them. The results of which are usually on par with that of what a stock 2t scooter runs. Now put the same $ into a 2 stroke and the results are profound. It really boils down to what you need the bike for. If you just need a daily point A to B transportation then a 4t will surfice BUT since its your primary ride, dont you owe it to yourself to get a 2 stroke and enjoy what small part of the daily grind that you can? If your an enthusiast just looking for a fun toy and for tuning, get a 2 stroke. ... See a pattern here?
