Well done!Does it run better with the new cylinder? It moves forward - which was something it wouldn't do with the R1200 at all It's about the same as it was before the con rod accident, with slightly less vibration and more power as I fixed an air leak. I'm just sorting out a replacement cylinder for the one with dodgy porting, which will be sent off to be ported by Bram. He reckons I should be looking at 17-19hp with a tuned cylinder

Went for a quick 1/2hr ride in the sun, was about 7mi from home when the instruments started playing up. A few moments later the power dropped off and the temp gauge shot up. Pulled over to find that the little brass nipple for the small coolant hose had fallen out and my coolant had shot into the CDI/Coil. Bore was absolutely roasting and temp was off the gauge I've hammered the nipple back in with epoxy to hold it secure, at this stage I'm unsure of what damage has been done. Will refill coolant and test to see. I'll tear the top end down regardless of result, as I suspect the o rings will be melted.

You just aren't having good luck lately Hopefully there isn't too much damage done.

Well it still runs but the bottom end power is rubbish Still fly's over 10k though. I suspect the compression (or lack of) gremlins are on the loose.

I can also report that the cylinder's not too badly scored, so it should be fine until I can get a replacement mid week.

Glad to hear the damage isn't too bad. Since you suspect compression loss is a problem, have you done a compression test? Thanks for all the pics you've been sharing.

This may sound surprising, but I don't actually posess a compression tester I'm certain it has lost me some compression, as low end power has dropped noticeably. Andy thinks it may be that the piston ring is warped from the heat. I'm sure the scoring on the barrel around the exhaust bridge won't help matters either. I'm not going to spend too long trying to diagnose, as I should be replacing it Weds anyway I can also report that the new racing spark plug gapped to 0.5mm gives much better high end power than an ungapped (0.7mm) normal plug (couldn't find my feeler gauges). Not really surprising Had 74mph out of it yesterday before things started to get a little wobbly and I backed off. And that's with throttle to spare

I can't get that speed with 30 more cc. Nice! Any idea why it's wobbly? I figured the Gilera would probably be stable at speed.

I don't usually ride faster than 60-65, but I was overtaking someone who had been happy to do 45 since the last village and they decided to floor it when they saw me in the mirrors  You must remember that we don't have a shoulder on most roads and scooters ride in the lane with everybody else, so I was overtaking on the wrong side of the road. I think something strange is going on with the front forks, I'll have to check it out when I get the panels off next. Whilst I'm on the subject I've got a to do list for when I next have the front panels off: -quick action throttle+new cable -electric water pump -HID kit -investigate wobbliness -replace the two red panel inserts (the ones by your knees) with black ones, I think the front's too red for my liking -clean the radiator properly I'll get all the bits together (water pump, HID kit, throttle etc) and have a day getting them all sorted.

I just thought i was catching up....lol The bigger the gap the harder it is for the spark to jump. Above 12500rpm it's running bit rough as it was misfiring due to the large gap

I'f I'm riding at traffic speeds, I do the same thing. Seems safer to pass just like other traffic would than to be flying by where people don't expect you to be... not that they really expect to get passed by a scooter anyway. lol
Nice upgrade list. Headlight upgrades are one of the best mods ever IMO. A bright set of lights sure does make it a much more enjoyable ride at night. You really need something nicer than what most scoot have stock to feel safe at that sort of speed.

The stock headlights aren't too shabby, 1xhi and 1xlo 35w and two 5w sidelights ;D Room for improvement though. Tidied the workshop up and consolidated my smaller Piaggio parts together in two boxes. Oh, and gave the scoot a bath.

Done a quick add up, to see where I stand. Looks like:
£30 quick action throttle £22 intake manifold - my current one keeps falling apart (it's in two halves) £55 water pump £48 HID kit ~£100 for new front panels (probably going to replace the whole lot as the're a little battered after it fell over in the van
=£255 to get it all sorted. May not go eleccy on the water pump, or get the HID kit so perhaps £155 or so for now.
The intake manifold and QA throttle are highest priority for now. It's difficult to go WOT without breaking your wrist
