Hi everyone. My name is Mike and I'm new to scooters and 2 cycles. I recently purchased my first scooter purchase and I'm guessing it's not the greatest so far and it needs a lot of work before it's road worthy. It's a sundiro mantis xdz50-H. Picked it up for 110 and so far I think it needs a carb. It has spark but not lighting off. If anyone has more info on this scooter as far as replacement parts and upgrades that would be great !! Thanks in advance.

If it's a sort of minimalistic looking noped deal like what comes up in a google image search for me, then you prob have the D1E41QMB engine. It's a vertical 2T with a chain drive instead of a CVT like most scooters. They can be alright as just a cruiser, but parts are harder to come by and they don't have a lot of potential for upgrades. I would consider just getting it to run and trying to flip it for slightly more cash. Then see if you can find something with a CVT. A 139QMB/GY6 50 4T or a 1E40QMB/Minarelli/Jog 2T would be better choices IMO for a cheap scoot. Should be tons of them on craigslist. I'm not trying to discourage you, just fair warning before you dump much money into this project.

Thanks 90vert! I dought I'll make anything off it unfortionatly. It'll be a good starter bike for the time being. Where would I start to look for parts?

Scrappydog has a bunch of parts for this engine too. These scooters can be reliable transportation as long as you don't want to go faster then 30mph or up a hill. The oil injector is driven off the back wheel so don't idle it too long or else it will run out of oil.

Brent's idea is a good one. Fix it up a bit, sell it and get something with the Gy6 engine. When I got my used scoot a few months ago, I was worried about being able to get parts..ha ha. I quickly found out that you can get any part, and I mean ANY part for these. Also, there are many places to get these parts and I was also surprised at how cheap you can get them with a little shopping and some helpful information from this forum. It is amazing how interchangeable a high percentage of the parts are among all of the various models of the Chinese 4 stroke Gy6 scooters.
Good luck whatever you end up doing but I would certainly consider Brent's original advise.

Thanks for all the positive feed back everyone. I hope to try and peak at an average of 40mph. I can make a few things work like intake modifications and finding an exhaust or making one. I see a rectifier mounted on the frame. Is that the same as a cdi? The coil looks to be the same as the Yamaha single plug coil that's avaliable anywhere so I guess that'll fit? Could I use a msd style coil or is that to high resistance for a moped? The major engine parts is what scare me. Just to get it road worthy it needs the following. Front brakes, rear tire 3-8.0 flasher is inop, the lights are taped up and there's no key. Someone wired a house light switch to the on off wiring. It's not pretty but I'm hopefull.

Rectifier/regulator is for charging and lighting.
You can prob find many coils that will work. I have an MSD coil on my scoot, but it's pretty pointless.
40MPH is a lot for that thing. Because it has no CVT, if you put a tuned pipe on it and get some power out of it... most likely it'll kill the low end and it will take you a long time to get moving. You could probably port it too, but then the low end would likely get even worse. Maybe there's room for improvement on compression, but that may not do much for speed. By the time you squeeze that extra 10MPH over what it'll prob do stock out of it, it'll end up being miserable to ride around town because of the lag. This is just my guess. I've never messed with that engine style in person.

From what I understand that 1E41QMB engine is a clone of a Suzuki scooter that was never imported into the US. It is also very similar to a Yamaha Razz. I have seen big bore kits for these but from what I understand, even shoving it out of a plane wont get it over 30 mph. The CDI (if it has one) is integrated into the coil and it is unique to that engine. No other coil will work but several vendors sell that coil. The ignition switch, flasher and the rest of the electrics are fairly generic and as long as the PO did not cut up the harness you should be able to source these cheaply from the vendors listed above. The only thing unique that would be hard to find is taillight and turn signal lenses, cowlings and other plastic pieces. I think a lot of people on this board have owned a scooter with one of these engines at one time or another and believe them when they tell you if you want something to go 40 mph, you need to fix it and sell it. To get to 40 mph, look at a scooter with a belt drive.
