With the 21, you will probably have to open up (port) the intake manifold to at least 21mm to get the additional flow because I think originally it is 19mm and would be a restriction.
I didn't start having problems with mine until I went to a performance exhaust.
Everyone says that the dellos are great little carbs. I should have had mine (19mm) on the 2nd but got lost by the post office and am still trying to sort it out, hence I still don't have it yet.
I decided to get the 19mm so that I could save time on porting work and get better fuel economy. I didn't think that the extra 0.5 or so hp would be worth it for my daily driver.

I have a 21mm, 24mm, and 25mm Dello and I like them all. A 19mm is plenty for a 70cc kit from Autotech, even if you add on a tuned pipe or do a little port work in the future. If you do go to 21mm, it's not that hard to open up the intake a little (assuming it's the most common rubber intake).

Agreed........my intake is a 6" or so rear facing curved tube piece of crap needed because the motor mount is right there, making it more of a pain to open up.

i have not found a chart for the dellorto carb dimensions, does the engine side fit the stock intake manifold and the filter side the stock filter? i ask because i will be running a dirt road for work and really need the more restrictive filter. last year the door jams of my car were coated in red dust.

I chopped off the two little locating nubs on the stock intake, and the 21mm fit. It is attached to my stock airbox as well. If the dust is that bad, plan on cleaning any filter often.

i made some gps runs today when it got over 32f. the gps says 45 mph on a flat. it seems to pull ok up hill but since my only 2 wheel frame of reference is my ducati, that's hardly appropriate. the stock "leader" carb seems to be around a 19mm so would going to different 19 make a huge difference? speaking of carbs anyone try an oko 21mm on the triton r4, or is a cost savings headache?

45 is pretty good with a stock pipe.
The stock carb may have a 19mm diameter at it's outlet, but it's choked down to about 14mm. A 19mm carb probably won't offer a lot different performance at this point though. I think I'd go for a tuned pipe if I were trying to get the best bang for the buck at this point. A decent pipe would probably give you a nice top end gain. I ran a kit like yours with the stock carb and a tuned pipe on my Triton for a few thousand miles. Switching from stock to the tuned pipe was worth about 5MPH for me. Pretty sure that was the "leader" carb.
I had an OKO 21. I didn't like it at all, had a hard time getting it to cooperate. I can't say for sure that's a fair review though, because I was new to tuning at the time.

the stock needle is on the last notch on the rich side. the br8 plug looked a little tan when i did a mid range plug check so i went with br9, i am afraid i am out of needle adjustment unless i can add a washer to get some lift.. if i add a pipe i could only go a bigger main jet, doable?

You'll probably have to upjet with a pipe, maybe 5-10% larger.

if it is just a larger mjet no problem, i have been looking at the scrappydog chamber. i have not been inside the tranny cover yet, maybe i should poke around the variator first, auto355 sent me 5, 6 and 7 gram rollers with the bbk.

Try out the rollers, man. Gotta tune that CVT if you want to put your new power to the ground efficiently.
