Hi Guys, need some info. I have put another engine in my son's CPI gtr50, have refitted the basics to get it running just leaving the air-filter off. It started first time, but seems to be ticking over rather too fast and when I open the throttle the engine just dies. Any help would be most appreciated. Spreader

sounds like your getting to much air, try putting the air box on it an try that.

Thanks for that shakerdriver, that did the trick. Although the scoot does accelerate really slowly but then takes off eventually, I believe that could be the rollers being unsuitable? What do you guys think?

Try going down 1.5 or 2.0g. per roller and see if that suits you.

either do what step said or change it to a little heavier contra spring, that'll keep it in the lower gears a little longer.

Thanks for the replies guys, have changed the rollers to a couple of different sizes, which did alter the performance as I expected, but the initial take-off is still very sluggish and there is a slight juddering noise at the same time felt through the steering, could that be something to do with the clutch or is it a carb set-up issue?

Have you played with the needle height in the carb? If you're perhaps speaking of the engine 'four-stroking' due to an overly rich mixture then idle mixture screw adjustment/needle height adjustment/idle jet size reduction may be in order. Otherwise, altering the clutch shoe engagement point with stiffer (one per shoe) 'pill' springs may aid launch characteristics.

I haven't played around with the carb at all as it seemed to be working ok pre- new engine, but it does feel like a clutch slipping/ judder to me, but sayin that this didn't occur before either.

Have lubricated the clutch spring and shoe springs, they seemed to be pretty stiff and it has done the trick. Although there is a bit of a lag at mid throttle which could be the carb set-up, performance is looking good. On a further note what sort of revs would you expect to acheive for an ideal tick-over? About 1800 rpm is a good idle speed. Most recommend 1600-1800 rpm.
