Got my alloy Athena BBK kit today (Thank you Spaz). Will try to tear down the rest of the engine in the next couple days and determine the shape of the bottom end. Need to run to the local Yamaha dealer tomorrow for an OE small end bearing. Ordered a flywheel puller and a Gianelli exhaust system. I'll need a main jet and we should be ready to fly. If any body has a 84 main jet for a stock carb hit me up, also looking for a stock oil pump, I just fricken sold one too. All the parts I need, I've sold. What kind of luck is that. Thats the way it always goes

I won't be needing my oil pump so hit me up since I'll be tearing into the scoot tomorrow.

I get rid of all kinds of stuff then later realize i need it like (but not limited to), past jobs, all my girlfriends, and my drug habit. All of these things i wish i kept. Lol

I've been busy taking care of my elderly grandma across town and spending a few days this weekend at the lake relaxing. Came home today and mowed my yard and two of the neighbors. It started to rain so I dug a little deeper into the $150 Zuma. Seems we have a 2008 model according to some stamps on the clutch showing a Feb 2008 manaufacture date. Pulled all the flywheel side stuff off the crank and all the transmission side parts as well to try and get a feel for the bearings. Being this bike smoked a cylinder I assumed the bearings would be toast. They seem ok, maybe. Hard to tell really. Anyone have a method to share to determine if the crank bearings are good or not? I'd like to keep this a cheap scooter project since I won't be running over 10k rpm. So far I have most of what I need to put it back together. Still waiting on my pipe though.

Man, my kid being here in town, I totally forgot about that pump. I'll get to it tomorrow after my appointments.

You should be able to move the crank up and down to feel for any play or roughness in the movement.

Got all the parts I need to get it running now. Hope to be able to tear it down soon and make sure the crank bearings are still good. I might pull the engine out tonight if I have time.

Well, I have the engine out. Bearings really felt gritty after I blasted them with carb cleaner to get the crud out of them. So I beat the case apart with a rubber hammer. Figure the cranks shot too. Rod has a little side to side play in it. Guess that's what happens if you don't run any 2T oil in your gas until the engine seizes. Can't believe it took four days of running to do it. Looks like a complete rebuild in my future. I'll save up and buy some parts.
The worst part is after I finished with the $150 2008 engine, I thought a little ride on the $100 2004 would be nice. I wanted to try some different rollers with my new Gianelli Extra exhaust. I popped in the rollers, had a fun little ride cruising at 45mph or so GPS. Started noticing a slight vibration. Pulled into the garage and the trans on the 2004 is leaking oil. The two big bearings have play in them. I tore it down. Needs two bearings two seals and a gasket. Lesson of the day, cheap scooters aren't alway cheap. Guess I had it coming with 20k on the clock. I'm off to search for parts.

Placed an order today with scootertuning.ca. Exchange rate helped a lot. Ordered a crank, bearings, seals, jets, front fender, rear tail plastic, and some misc pieces. All I'll need is a battery once everything shows up. I'm ready to get this on the road again.

Parts are here! I'm going to clean cases and try to cram this thing back together over the weekend. Hope to get it ready to roll soon. Still need to order a pipe and some tires for it. I'm thinking Stage6 Pro Replica and some Boppers. The transmission is apart on my 2004 still, waiting for one more seal to arrive at my local dealer. Also I'm losing the front wheel bearing on my Victory Kingpin. It's gotten growly when I turn and I don't like it. No more rides until I get that fixed up. I ordered bearing for it today as well. Bringing the grand total of broken two wheelers in my garage up to three. Seriously depressing man. I have nothing to ride unless I sneak my kids bone stock 2005 Zuma out for a spin. I think I'll keep both my Zumas after all. Why sell one, since I'm in them so cheap. Might as well have a spare to ride if one goes down huh?

Good idea to keep them and if you come across anymore, then you can buy and sell them. It's another way of picking the best parts for you bikes as well

So, got off work a little early and prepped the case halves. Tossed the bearings and the crank in the freezer and got out the heat gun. Dropped in the bearings first into the heated case halves without issue. Went to drop the crank into the bearing in the big case half and I let the rod slip into the intake channel. Tapped the crank out gently with a plastic hammer and the bearing came with it. Tossed the crank and bearing back in the freezer and ran some errands. Things just weren't going my way tonight. Finally got the bottom end buttoned up and moved on the the Athena top end kit. No issues, easy install. Started installing the stator side bits and hit a damn road block. The oil pump I got from Spaz, and the plastic gear I already had just won't jive. It could be the aftermarket crank, I think the pin hole might be slightly to far outboard. I had a lot of trouble getting the snap ring to seat, and the pump was only turning some of the time. Gave up after way to much time wasted trying to make it work. I'll be pre mixing this bike. No biggie, just frustrating. Got the engine mounted in the bike, intake and carb are on. Just need a few more things tomorrow and it should be ready to start up. I removed the oil tank, and the plastic oil pump drive gear. Left the pump itself in place to fill the hole. Ill try to take some pictures tomorrow. Still don't know what pipe I want, going to test using the Gianelli Extra.

It's runs, but only about 10-15mph. I'm out of time tonight. Tomorrow I'll figure out what I've overlooked. Seems fuel related. Compression is awesome with this Athena. Bet I've got an air leak someplace.
