I've had this issue for quite a while, even after changing the brakes to a new set. The rear tire spins freely about 9/10 of the way around, but then it makes a squeaking noise and grinds to a halt. I've adjusted the brake cable as lightly as possible with it still in the range of the brake WORKING so loose, but it doesn't make a difference. Just really wondering what the cause is.

are you sure its the brake and not something in the gearbox?

I had that issue when my Triton was brand new. I took it to the dealer and their cure was to back the adjuster off to the point that I had no rear brake. Needless to say, I never bothered to go back. I took the shoes off and went over them with emery cloth and did the same for the drum inside the wheel. Clean everything off afterwards with brake parts cleaner. That was enough to fix my problem. Might work for you. I'd assume the drum is your issue, since the shoes have been replaced.

If I remember right, there were some pretty deep scuffs on the drum when I changed the shoes. I'll have to go over it and see if I can get it to smooth out a bit. Thanks.

Could it be machined on a drum lathe?

The only way to fix that and still have a close brake with little play is to have it turned on a lathe. I have never seen a brake lathe with a shaft small enough to fit through the hole on a scoot wheel. I am lucky that my new one is nearly round. If you find someone who can do it please let me/us know know so I/we can add them to the list-of-ppl-that-can-do-stuff.
