Hey guys... Since i have a few weeks wait on the part for the ZX, i thought i'd try and bring something back on this d.o.a cobra. It needed a new switch, i ordered one from S.A. It is a exact replica from kymco. I removed the old switch and plugged in the new.. I have no power at all.... I swapped batt. from the guilty, the fuses are good. NO horn, no brake lights, no oil light, no fuel gauge movement... I do have a cheap multimeter, which idk how to operate correctly, but i have voltage at the batt., seems to have volts at the plug end.. The red wire end plug for the starter relay(the 1 end plug only) looks rusted/fried. I didnt think that should interuppt the power circuit... Could i have a faulty ignition switch?.. Or do i need to look at something else? Any suggestions would be great... I lack in the electrical dept. for sure

Hey 190mech... Thank you for the reply... I did find the green frame ground was burnt/melted ALL the way back right past the batt. connection. I stripped the wires all the way back and installed a new ground and now i have power.... The oil light came on along with the horn beeps.... I need to go tape everything up now and see how bad this scoot will be to bring back from the grave.... looks good for oem anyway... :thumb: THANK YOU JOHN FOR THAT TIP.... Cleaned the gas tank. I have a new piston/rings to install on it.(after i know it'll crank/turnover anyway...)

Glad that got ya sparkin'!Now I wonder how the heck the ground wire melted??Like we say at the shop "one wire hooks it up,two wires f**ks it up"!!

Now that, i have no idea.. The only thing i can see is that they tried straight wiring it. It sure did melt. From the frame all the way to the back toward the rear light ground.. I hope this will be a easy revival.....lol

Some one could have hooked the battery up backwards in the past? Make sure to check the stator output when you get her running.. Glad to hear there may be another Cobra rider! The name has got to be one of the coolest of the scooter names IMO! There are some weird scoot names out there LMAO!

Hey guys... I went out this a.m and cleaned the oil tank, gas tank, carb. (had water in the oil tank/line. I installed a new plug(from the Zx), plug boot... Turned over 2 and fired up... :nana:  ......(now that had to be a blessin for me. ) I have to wait till middle of the week to test ride it. It needs the side fan cover, josh didnt get it in the mail before he headed to indy... I also need to change the ex.studs. they are both broke off. Luckily i have enough to grab, but it would'nt budge.. Guess i'll need to disassemble and hope to remove them.... Could this be done w/o disassembly? guess if i'm real careful huh?... Everything works on it too, this was a great score... VERY cheap, bought a switch and fires... This has me stoked... Be nice if all projects were that easy Of course i have thought about,ALREADY, checking the #'s and setting squish, see what i can do to this for free....(since the s9 got a new pipe, i already have a next r to throw on) (what are some #'s for the next r pipe?.. anybody know?) Still a bit dirty but a nice lookin.. Does have 1 tear on the seat, otherwise great shape

Hey guys... Well, i'm sure several of you are going to call me retarded but i have a dumb question here.. Last week, i had gotten this thing running. I had to remove the cylinder to get bokre ex studs out. The piston was all marked up, cyl. marked yp. I was suprised it ran at all.... ;D. I ordered a new piston/rings, cleaned up the cylinder, reinstalled everything, now it wont start.. I removed the cyl. again, the rings arent stuck.. The thing ran with a messed up piston, any ideas why it wont start with a new piston?... Of course with my crappy compression tester, the compression is way low BUT i only had 75lbs max on my zx and rode it everyday.. NEVER HAD THIS 100+ LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE... Anyway, should i just slap in the scarred piston?....

Have you checked for fuel and spark again just to be sure nothing else has messed up?

Yeah, I even swapped out to my old zx piston....lol Getting spark, fuel.. PLug is wet, so maybe the float sticking? clean carb again? been inside though. Even sprayed starting fluid inside the combustion chamber, plug got wet then too.. 1 step forward, 3 steps back...................

Maybe take the air filter off and take the plug out and let it clear out and try again if it's flooded.

Good morning guys.. Well i hope i can pick someones brain again this a.m... I recleaned the carb this a.m, nothing.. I went as far as putting in the nasty looking piston that came out of it. It started for a minute... I gave it gas and wanted to die, which it did.. the plug was wet.. I can not believe it started, SO, that would lean toward ring end gap, correct?.. I covered that piston and cylinder with oil when i replaced and started also.. SO, either end gap or the extra oil is my conclusion to the aid of firing.. Am i wrong? I hope it'll firwe again, took cylinder back off to look again and coat oit with oil to see. Seemed to be more fuel than anything in the chamber. But that piston i guess, i seen a pic somewhere here, maybe 2strokd, thinking a "soft seize" markings.(scraped from top to bottom). why i cant believe it even ran in the 1st place, and fired this a.m vs the new piston... :stumped: Any ideas on the next path of action? :scared:

I have had a few bouts with my Uncle (now buddys) Cobra not wanting to start, then real tuff to start after flooding. Try a fresh plug if you have one? Let the cylinder air out really good with the plug out and a fan on it if you can. You said its inside so im guessing the engine isnt cold? I played hell getting mine to start after letting it sit in VERY cold temps for over a month. I had to warm the scooter in a heated garage and ended up still having to put my hand over the carb and manually choke it to get it started. These engines HATE and i mean HATE to be flooded. They will give you hell until they are to started if they get that way. A piston with scratches and scars will still work, its just not the best.

Oh, and nest time you get it running dont hit the throttle unless you have to. Let the engine idle and build some heat first if you can
