Hey 90, thanks for a reply this a.m... Well, no i havent tried that.. I have the oem from my zx but the screw top's are different and the cable will be a new experiance for me... Wish i had another of these carbs... I will try that on my tester, i have the same rubber o-ring...(harbor freight special... ;D) Could i have actually "bored" the cylinder while "cleaning" it??? causing this.. I made about 10 passes with 320 grit hone? I mean she fired perfect, but died in like 3 seconds.(faster than i know the carb bowl would have drained...lol)
Looking into the carb jet "holder"(the carb casing), Of course you can see thru the mj holder to the other side. On the PJ, looking thru the "holder",(not the jet) should you see light? (this "hole" is next to the mj hole when you even look thru the slide side)I cleaned carb AGAIN, but idk about the PJ

Pull the pilot out and clean it if you can't see light through it.
Your bore is probably OK.

Thanks brent... I tried to get a piece of wire in, but it wont go thru the carb body But when i spray carb cleaner, You can see the cleaner come thru the body...
Good, i hope i didnt mess the bore up. I tried making it short and sweet, but idk the limit,etc.....

You can change the name by modifying the first post's title, or you should be able to anyway.

Good afternoon guys... A couple ? if i may on this heathen scoot...
I had "cleaned" the cyl. and reinstalled the new piston/rings.. Started and ran for about 3 seconds, then died, wont fire back. I was told that the cylinder is bad. It did have some "deep" scratches... Told to try to "clean" more to get rid of the marks and place oil to help "seal" it I made about 20 passes witha 320 grit ball hone. Some of the scratches came out. A good one left on each side..(guessing the end gap mark). Replaced again with a tad of thicker oil to seal the rings?.. Could'nt get it to hit this time at all.. How do you "know" the cylinder is to rough and cant be used? What is the avg. compression on a 50cc? (this is all stock) Tried 2 different testers..mine shows 60lbs.. the other shows 75lbs. New reed cage,piston/rings.. I really dont want to buy a cylinder if that's not the issue.. could be in carb too maybe... 2strokd i'd say is the only one that even may have a oem cyl. or carb for this thing.. Can you put a vert engine cyl. on a hori. engine?.. Still have my zx cylinder, Holes look close... Would a head gasket stop it from firing period?..(figure it be lean but run)

Any ideas on oem specs on compression?... I get 60lbs with one tester....75lbs with another

For it to run well, you usually wanna see at least 100psi.

I had a "brain fart" on this... If i do have low compression. Since i have such a high squish area, Could i not shave the head down for squish and raise the compression to running capacity?

Its not low for lack of squish silly. Its good that your storming ideas tho! The comp is low from wear and poor ring seat. If anything its worth a try tho i guess lol. Ive done shit like that! How do the rings look? Are they seating in the lands well AND springing back out of them? My buddies (Uncles old) Cobra lost power again over time and come to find out, the upper ring had dismissed itself from duty. lol, The scooter still ran....Just very weak! These motors are very well designed IMO.

Well, actually it has new piston/rings in it.. Went to clean cylinder again and cant get a thing out.. The cyl. does still have a cpl scratches in it after that... idk, i guess i have to just keep buying parts and try it, only way i'll ever be able to sell it.... a cylinder is $100, a carb will be $100. gotta be one of the 2.... i think...60lbs with one tester 75lbs with another... need to get this up and gone so i can get a pipe made...lol.... Yeah, i'm not gonna "try" it if it's liable not to work.. Shaving will cost me $50 MORE, half way to a cyl then......... it does have like a 2.45 squish.. Its way high

I found a used cylinder on ebay and must have gotten screwed... imagine that.... :swear: . Well it had a good mark on the innside so i used a 320 grit ball hone, made about 10 passes on each side and now i have LESS compression than the oem one i tryied.. Am i fkn these up with the ball hone or something? :stumped: :stumped: :banghead: :banghead: :swear: :swear: I removed the new piston/rings and used a KNOWN good piston/rings in case that was an issue.(since it was a cheaper piston/rings).. Of course in trying to crank this fkr, i must haver flooded it SOME DAM HOW?? :stumped: :stumped: :banghead: :banghead: :swear: :swear: How in the world can i take 2 scooters COMPLETELY APART, and they crank on the second kick? ?? This one was d.o.a but complete and i wanna burn it :jaw: Any input on this ball hone or scoot would be awesome at this point.......

I just use hones to put a fresh finish on a bore, not really to try and machine out imperfections beyond the very minor. If you're doing any more than that I think you should be measuring the bore and clearances to be sure you don't take it too far.
Do you know that the eBay cylinder had more compression pre-hone? Might be the cylinder and not you.

Hey 90, no, i seen it on ebay and seen pics and even asked for other pics but i couldnt see the mark in the pic, when it showed up i seen it. That's a reason why i had gotten the 320 grit so wouldnt go far with it. $40 shot i guess, neither cylinder gives compression worth a crap. got 45? now.... had 60-75 Didnt have $100 for a new cylinder so i bought a used.. I definately cant keep sinking cash in this. I coulda bought some jets or something.. iz a broke fkr...lmao

I wanted to remove the "glazey" look from inside.. didnt figure 10-20 passes would BORE it any. lord knows i used a shoe hone on my oem zx cylinder and worked...(and it was a 220 grit?)
