When you say side to side, do you mean you pulled the variator off and grabbed the end of crankshaft and that moves side to side or the entire crank moves side to side in the case or did you pull off the piston and the rod has side slop?

The end of the crank shaft has a side to side play. Between 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch.

That happened to my first scooter after about 13,500 chinometers. Main bearing on the variator side got sloppy. It's fairly common cause that side has to deal with the stresses of the belt getting tight and loose over and over. When mine got sloppy the engine would clunk clunk clunk at idle. I rode it with the clunk for another 1500 or so til I found a used $100 scooter with a decent motor and swapped the entire engine. It was either that or rebuild the engine with a new crank or at least new crank bearings which isn't all that difficult but back in 2006 I had no clue how to do that yet so I opted for a used engine at that point.
I assume this is your Avispa we are talking about so finding a cheap used long case 139QMB isn't as easy as pie so you are probably looking at a rebuild job soon. Is there oil in the belt cover?
Change your oil often boys and girls or this can happen to your scooter sooner than it should.

is your belt too tight? all that stuff is supposed to stay on the arms. theyre only suposed to ride on the springs, and roller weights. if the belts too tight, then it pulls the arms, the front on the back, or the back on the front, or whatever. these scooter belts only fit, like a globe. does anyone else have these problems from the same thing show up?

No oil coming out the seals. Except my forks. Lol.
I did run a shorter belt cause the size is so odd. Three diff sizes other than I run now in less than a hundrend miles failed. I have a 785-17-28 in now, which is the same as the scoot had on it from when I got it from previous owner.

is his belt too short? do you guys think your crankshaft arms are gears? Who knows if the belt is too short.. Could be I suppose. Crankshaft a gear? Nope. But when did you ask that before? And what does any of that have to do with his question on the amount of side to side play?

Hey ceeja, don't take this the wrong way, but is English your primary language? Not trying to be rude, just wondering if something is getting lost in translation.
