I tried to just keep this bike as a grocery getter/errand runner but I just cannot resist.
Went for about a 30 mile ride tonight. Nice and cool here in central NC...about 50 degrees, great air cooled engine weather. I'm like many of you, ride at night...light traffic and cooler out.
I decided to adjust my carb after riding about 15 miles. Did a plug read and it looked like a new one out of the box (lean). I thought I would mark the position of the a/f screw and count the rotations while running it in. 2 turns exactly. Ran it out 2 and a half which is a good rule of thumb on just about every carb'd motor i have ever worked on. Took off and it felt like i was riding into a headwind. Hesitating and a bit of a bog. pulled over and did a plug read. No change. I put it back exactly where the little fellow across the pond put it and it runs like a top. Wow a little 50cc is very sensitive to any changes.
My chinometer has been bouncing from about 20mph on up. The bounce was about a 5-7 mph swing but I just dismissed it as being the nature of the chinometer, my 150 did the same thing and nothing i did would cure it like trying to lube the cable, greasing the gear at the wheel and tightening the axle nut. I got some red loctite to put on the exhaust bolts and a few other things and thought well the axle nut would be a good place to put some too. The nut was jussst about to fall off! For the life of me I cannot remember how tight I put it on during assembly...i must have gotten distracted. I tightened it up real snug an put on the loctite. No more bounce so if it happens again I will know whats up.
For the money I am really impressed with this bike so far. Its a much better bike than the Chunal (sp) Adventure 150 I had. Sure its slower since its a 50cc but its much faster than I thought it would be. Better lighting, better brakes, better controls. I really dont see why a chinascoot like this one cant rival its japanese and tiawanese counterparts as long as a good PDI is done like this one..

I didnt do all that but i think I'm going to. This bike just might be worth it. Seems like I remember seeing some pics of a chinascoot on SD back in '09 that had a shot of the odometer..if i remember correctly it had 40-some thousand miles on it! The owner claimed he had not done anything but change the oil and a new spark plug. Who knows. I think its certainly possible though.
Whats the highest mileage you have ever seen or had on a scoot?
Be safe out there friends!! :riding:
