90GTVertA big thank you for "adopting" a dog and not buying somewhere. Our dogs (4) are also all adopted and came from very bad places. In Japan it is pretty comon for people to go to so called pet shops and buy small puppies around 1-2 months old. They are kept in small spaces/glass boxes all the time. Anyways, glad to hear that you could give a new fella a nice, warm home.

Hey cool good for you Brent! Monty looks a lot like our dog Ellie. We think she is also German Shepard/Lab mix but I swear sometimes I see some Pitbull in her face especially when we're playing rough with her rope toy. The Shepard Lab mix is interesting because the dogs are so danged intelligent. I've had some smart dogs before but Ellie is creepy intelligent. Will play ferociously with me but when my 2 year old daughter tries to do the same as Daddy, Ellie refuses to be aggressive and is super gentle when taking the rope toy. It's so funny to watch. I think it's a real great mix! Like Monty, she craves attention like crazy and will force herself under your hand if you try to refuse to pet her. Looks like you're about to start a very long close relationship with Monty there. I have a feeling he won't give you any other option! As soon as I saw Monty I said he looks so much like a giant version of my friend's pitbull/lab mix. Having nearly the same markings goes a long way though. I don't think his jaws are developed the same way though. He has big jaws because he's big, but Isabella's jaws were proportionately large compared to other non-pits or pit mixes. I don't think the pics I have show it off, but she loved to be in your face and on your lap too so it was pretty obvious to me. Bingo was claimed to be a pit/lab mix, but he didn't have the over-developed jaw muscles so I don't know if they were wrong about what he is or if it just depends on each mixed dog. Isabella Pit/LabI could swear Monty is more like a Great Dane/Lab mix. He's so awkward with his long body and legs. Just kinda falls over obstacles. Doesn't remind me of how a GSD or lab would usually be. He is athletic though. He was on top of the dining room table the other night with a big jump. lol The lady at the SPCA told us she had him at an expo the previous weekend and he acted totally different around children, somehow instinctively knowing he can't be crazy with them. I think dogs can be a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

I think sometimes there's a misconception that shelter dogs must have something wrong with them. Some of them do have issues, but very many are there through no fault of their own.

Daisy on the left, a Chocolate Lab/Weimer mutant we rescued 8 years ago as a puppy, I was a volunteer at the shelter who got the litter, she followed me home. Tucker on the right, adopted him from the local shelter 4 years ago as a puppy, momma was a AKC GSP, daddy was a Great Dane, he's 110 pounds of goofy.

This is Emma, with her pal JR, one of our 3 cats. We got Emma last year from the shelter back home when she's four. We were the third family to adopt her, she basically was stuck in a cage and used to breed pitlabs as soon as she could have a litter, they think she had at least three before they raided the place. She had a lot of issues, she'd turn on you without warning if you even petted her wrong. I have a nice scar on my chin from one of those. Many hours of love and bouncy ball later, this picture pretty much says it all about how the story ends ")

This is tobias fornell aka fenny we rescued him a year and a half ago The wife knew I missed having a dog and being we had bought a house so we no longer had a land lord who would only allow cats The sad thing is the rescue was not upfront with us about his issues He loves camping with us and it has helped his temperament come a long way

I am at 12 cats now. I bought a house in Sept '16 and last spring a pregnant cat was dumped at my house. I wanted to keep her but she terrorized my cat that is unfortunately mentally deficient. Tasha is about 5 yrs old but mentally will never be more than about a 6 month old as far as caring for herself. So Jemma had to go but I kept her 2 surviving babies. Then over the summer, at 2 different times, I adopted deaf babies. Pooka is the older and was dumped at my local Food Lion. Vet agrees it was prob because she is deaf. And then my Humane Society had a deaf little boy. Normally I wouldn't have been able to adopt him but finding a home that has experience with a deaf cat is hard. So they let me adopt him. Pooka got her name from the Irish spirit. And Oscar is a grumbly little grouch who hates sharing Momma. i97.photobucket.com/albums/l238/genseeker/20180206_203517.jpg

BTW, the soccer ball didn't last. I was trying to get a big ball that was soft enough for outdoor play locally and that was about the best I could find. Destroyed in short order. Eventually found THESE on amazon and they're tough so I'd recommend them if anyone else is looking for something similar. Got him 2 and there are so many holes in both but they're still bouncing and soft enough to not hurt Monty.

This is my buddy Zach in his 2 favorite locations.
When ever I get ready to go someplace he comes running. Even though he's to big for the seat in the van he finds a way. he likes it better with the window down. He was rescued but tends to be skittish, not in that I'll bite you way. On Saturday he actually came in the garage while I worked. Of course he left when he couldn't find a bead to lay on. I need to find room for one.

I was playing with a camera outside today so, more of Monty. Can you tell he was enjoying the breeze on a sunny 60 degree day?
