Hey everyone I have a scooter issue that has been causing me a lot of pain and almost got me killed last week!! So I start the scooter and she starts fine the usual high rev and then she settles down into her idle. Slap on my ppe and glove and start to give the bike gas to slowly get out on the road and then as soon as I get right past 1/4th throttle she suddenly slowed down and didn't want to go forward and is surging forward as I try to rev the throttle to get her going to the turn lane, all this as three lanes of cars head my way. She gives out just as I twist the bike missing the car in the lane in front of me and the truck in my lane screeches to a halt. Brake smoke and horns filling the air around me. Shaken I start the bike up again and walk it into the turn lane. From there she drives just fine, a good 8 miles down the road with multiple light stops and stuff. that was last week on wed and since that morning I had no issues like that again. Until this morning! again I start the bike up and let her idle get ready and starts going and bam she starts acting up again. this time thankfully with no death scare. I have check the fuel flow and petcock both seem good, changed oil again to check for metal shavings of any kind. made sure had full tank of gas. any ideas for next thing to check? and also my darn rear00 brake line keeps getting stuck holding the tire after I let it go. I give it a squeeze to slow me down and sometimes when I stop I let go of the brake but then it only comes back out about half way, with some wiggling I get it free in a hurry when that green light hits but this is a big issue for me. help please on both subjects. thank you all for your expertise!

My bike has had the diaphram and needle in the carb get jammed and do this same thing to me. I can get it to stop by taking off my filter attached to the carb and basically finger the diaphram up and see that it returns to its proper resting position. Mine only does this when I drive my yellow scoot in the rain. I had to "finger" it this morning (lol I know...) to get it to run properly. I think my situation is feom water getting into the vacuum passages. This may not be your issu obviously, but I would be willing to bet that your needle needs cleaning or something of the sort.

It sounds like it runs out of or low on fuel at times. I would clean the carb thoroughly. I've had small pieces of debris end up in the bowl and get sucked up to block the main jet at times, and other times it would act fine.
I'd probably disconnect the rear brake cable from the lever at the engine case. Clean everything. See if that lever moves as it should when the cable isn't hooked up and see if the hand lever and cable both move freely.

Water in the gas could cause this. May be worth it to completely drain the gas tank into a clear container like a 2-liter 7UP bottle or a gallon milk jug so you can see if there is any water settling to the bottom.
If you disconnect the fuel line from carb and run it or put a hose onto it so you can run it into a container then you disconnect the vacuum line from petcock, suck on it and pinch it off with a clamp or bend it in half while you are sucking the vacuum will stay in the line and all the fuel will flow out as you watch or do something else.

Thanks everyone will try cleaning the carb and taking apart the brake lines. I really hope this works.

Does you carb have a sealed mixture screw? If so, drill the cap off as shown in the video and then watch the second video to see how to adjust it. Be super careful not to fu*k up the screw with the drill bit. Just push easy and let the bit do the work.

If valve adjust doesn't help it's probably a vacuum leak somewhere.

Thank you so before i got into the grit of checking the valves i adjusted the fuel flow screw like suggested and it helped a little with keeping up the idle. i was able to get the bike to go past 1/4th throttle but it wouldnt go past 20mph even with the throttle all open. (my first thought was great how in the world did i put the carb together incorectly!)So tired of dealing with the keihin carb, I swapped my newley cleaned & reasembled Keihin carb for a sealed one off my other bike. So i set the keihin down with out looking at it and install the sealed one. Seems to do the run ok, I set the idle on the sealed carb and took a test drive and she ran normaly a little slower that with the k carb but still ran ok. Went back to look at the K carb and found that the spring for the throttle needle was out of place and that was why i couldnt go past 20mph. Fixed that and now i presume that the k carb is back to working order. I have it temporarily installed on the spare bike for now. My next issue is how in the world do i get my bike to warm up quick when its below 32'f. I got ready for work a lil while ago and i started the bike up while putting on my ppe and it ran for about 3-5 min maybe, but i could tell that the cold was keeping the engine from going the way it should. Towards the end of my ride the drive was smoother ofcourse as the engine was plenty warm by then. So please any tips on beating the cold and ill let you know how the bike runs after i swap the carbs back and check the valves. Thank you for all you help so far.

Bring the scoot inside to keep it warm? Not sure if that's an option? But it's not THAT cold in Vegas. Unless you live by, or ride by one of the golf courses. That's cold! I feel ya on the cold though, I refuse to ride here in the winter time. Summer time too. This weather sucks for scoots and motorcycles.

Well the summer time isnt to bad my scooters enjoy the warmth. They dont like the cold it has been last few days though, no not as cold as where other members live. thanks for the suggestion i may have to but i think ill just let it idle out front of my apt while i get ready in the am for now. wifey doesnt like the scooter inside says it stinks! i dont think so. actually i live right next to a golf course! my apt back walls are the fences the green! lol off of green valley & warmsprings. Also where do you store your scoot overnight? garage? out front? how do you secure it?
