So just soak and scrub? Metal scrubby? Gloves? Is it obtainable at like Walmart or a hardware store? Wax on, Wax off Danielson.... lol. I dilute the muriatic acid into water 1:1 (see pic below!) (If you have one cup of m.a., add one cup water etc.). For rusty bolts I simply soak them in a plastic cup of the solution for about 5-10 minutes, you can swish around, but it's not even really needed! I then pour off the excess solution and drop the bolts into a different cup (a red solo cup leftover from New Years will do), add some baking soda for snap and sizzle acid neutralization. After that you can put a little oil on them or spray WD-40 on them or whatever just to keep from flash rusting again. For the rusty chrome pieces I scrub with a toothbrush dipped in the muriatic acid/water solution, wipe the acid off, sprinkle baking soda on just to neutralize any acid left over, and wipe chrome with a nice oily rag to keep from flash rusting! Yes, wear all safety gear- safety glasses, face shield, rubber gloves, welding gloves, boots, smock, hair net, morning after pill, etc.... Did i forget anything?? I use muriatic for work (I'm the pool guy) so I always have some on the truck, but it's available at any pool supply store like Pinch a Penny etc. It might be available at a Hardware Store. I kinda doubt it's available at Walmart. ![]()  ![]() |
