A taller tire will help to increase your potential for top speed. It will have a similar negative affect on acceleration. Most tires that you can probably fit aren't going to provide a huge change either way, but you might pick up a little from it.
A 120/70/12 has a circumference of roughly 58.48". A 140/70/12 (taller and wider) has a circumference of 61.94". If you spin both tires at 1000RPM, the 120 will travel at 55.7MPH and the 140 will travel at 59MPH.

Yeah, I could do the math considering I had to put the formulas into the page to make the calcs, but why the heck would I wanna do that? lol Math just isn't that much fun. Besides, I suck now. In school some of the teachers had a board for the 100% and higher (bonus) scores on math, algebra, etc... tests and I was on every one. They stuck me in advanced classes. Ended up getting stuck tutoring people instead of twiddling my thumbs when I finished my work. All that kinda crap. Now I really have to think about fairly basic algebra. Pretty sad, but again... yay calculators. lol Now I know what my parents meant when they used to say, "It's been a long time since we had math classes."

I get sleepy just reading that formula, sigh. I'm good on paper, old school. Hey I can remember when pocket calculators were new, and a digital watch cost $50, LOL. My kids score high in those tests. I can't help the 12 year old with math
