Well poop. Looks like I need to address this slightly loose fitting, fitting.

I soldered around the base of the nipple (this brass solders really nicely!) and carefully filed it in a bit of a cone shape. I then threw the fitting in the freezer frost and heated the carb base where it goes in. I used the vice and slowly pushed the two together for a very tight hot/cold friction fit. It seems very strong and tight. I've been considering my options if it doesn't hold up- seems like I may need to tap the aluminum and find or make a threaded nipple. Hopefully I don't need to go there and this pressed fit holds up...

These women if you don't treat them to a nice dinner they screw up your night. Hopefully the fix holds.

Getting much closer on the tune! Went for a little one hour ride last night. Nothing crazy, just mild cruising around. GPS says I hit 52 mph at one point. I don't think I ever broke 300 on the CHT. I'll feel much more comfortable running at WOT once the Kytronik Smart Booster 2016 arrives. I can't seem to get the idle speed back to that low chug chug chug like I did have it, but I am using a lighter flywheel now and my compression is also considerably less than what it used to be. Went from 180psi with the modified stock head all the way down to 130psi with this Polini head w/no gasket. I'd need to take the head back off to get a real good look, but just looking at google images of it, it seems that I may be able to get some of the surface machined off before running into problems with the cooling fins underneath... My list of things that need attention is getting shorter! But longer in that there are so many that I want to do to it. 1. Needs new piston. I'll probably give the Grand Sport another shot, just with some trimming of the skirt. (Weird thing is, I never did see any evidence of contact ) 2. Beef up the clutch- Going to install a stronger, banded clutch basket as I have a feeling this stocker won't last long at high RPM's once I start really wringing it's neck again. 3. Brakes. A disk brake conversion just isn't in my budget any time soon. Seems this project will cost no less than $500 no matter how you slice it. For now I'll just be freshening up the brakes with some new pads and probably a new cable kit just to be safe. 4. Suspension! This should've been higher on my list as it's so important but again gets real costly when drooling over some of the high-end options for this thing. I'll probably go somewhere in the (lower) middle with a decent upgrade that doesn't break the bank. The YSS X-Pro's seem like a decent option... www.sip-scootershop.com/main/base/Details.aspx?ProductNumber=yss50900&_language=en5. Exhaust. There's a lot of differing opinions out there on this cheapy ScootRS expansion chamber I'm currently running ranging from "it's junk" to "great exhaust with great power for the price tag", but I think it's pretty much unanimous that there's so many better options out there. Depending on the price and availability of the exhaust I really want, I'll probably end up going with the budget friendly Boomstick. I've read plenty of good reviews about it and I'm curious to see for myself just how this cheapy ScootRS pipe matches up to a "real" pipe. pistonported.com/boomstick-vespa-left-hand-exhaust-200cc/So as you can see, I have lots of plans for the Ol' Wasp and I'm sure there will be (positive actually) plenty more bumps in the road to getting it where I want it. Just gotta keep her in one piece while I try to move forward!

Phew that turned into a much bigger project than I expected! I swapped the cable and manual chokes around from this Polini PWK and the Polini CP carb off the AIR scoot (I didn't even have a cable hooked up to it on the AIR) so now I have a working choke that I can reach down and pull if I need to. I rarely if ever use the chokes to start these scoots, I mostly just use them for tuning purposes to see how the scoot reacts to the extra fuel. Anywho, here it is- it's hooked up to the stock old fashioned choke plunger and works great!

Altho I only have the stock 12bhp, i can flail it at the red lights. 3. Look for a Stella Headset and disk brake. 4. Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes. I have those super fancy SIP ones, BUT if you dont feel comfy/dont want to spend that money, dont get super adjustable ones. I do not like the YSS, mostly bc they all broke whenever I used one on the Racing Piaggio ZIPS. BGM ones have a good rep and maybe the lower grade SIP ones. BUT ALSO, consider the CARBONE ones. Cheap and good progressive springs. Just rode a Stella to campus with those on, and it rides VERY well. 5. DO NOT GET A BOOMSTICK. I REPEAT, DO NOT GET A BOOMSTICK. ESPECIALLY the left handed one. It will move your power peak WAY too high, to the point where you will lose speed shifting from 3rd to 4th depending how steep you go uphill. Rode a P200 stock with a right handed boomstick (1000-500 lower on peak power) and that thing is terrible really. P200's are all about torque. Box exhausts is where it is at. SIP road 2.0 or Road XL/BGM Big Box are fantastic! Hit up Scooter Originali and ask if they still do the "Bandcamp-Special" Price on one of those scootersoriginali.com/collections/vespa-exhaust/products/vespa-big-bore-exhaust-p200e-px200-scootopiaCARB: I love the tuk tuk sound, DO fiddle with your idle mixture screw until you get that right. This will be my second one. I was warned by a member here about the questionable quality of the Meteor pistons and sure enough my Grand Sport (Meteor) piston broke at a high idle. So far not too impressed but willing to give it another shot. 2. I have the same ones. 3. On it! 4. Hmm... Sounds like that price is too good to be true then. 5. I'm already running a cheap ScootRS expansion chamber and never really had any issue going from 3rd to 4th that I read about. Then again, hills are pretty much non-existent in Florida. I know myself too well to know I won't be happy unless I at least try a decent expansion chamber. It will always be in the back of my mind. Not to mean that I won't try a nice box exhaust also- and might even like it better- but I won't be happy until I've gone the expansion route. I will wholeheartedly accept "I told you so's" 6. I've made more progress in the last few weeks getting this baby running good again than I have in the last 4 months! Anxiously awaiting the arrival of the SmartBooster'16. I've toned things down timing and compression wise considerably and the SB should let me get back to ripping it up again with more advance down low. It was a wheelie monster already with 18/19 degrees. Can't wait to see what 25/26 degrees will do to it. Should wake the beast again! I'm liking the looks of curves of "6,7" and "C" here:

Ugh. It's never ending! My order of the Kytronic Smart Booster got cancelled. Well, not cancelled but... Let me just lay the scenario out here. Here's the first email I received shortly after ordering the KSB16: " Dear customer,
You should have received or are about to receive your order from KyTronik !
We hope the ordering process and packaging were satisfying.
We received a warning from one of our electronic parts supplier pointing at a potential malfunction. Unfortunately, the way we test our modules can not detect this type of issue.
Hence, we are seeking for confirmation from our first customers that their device is working.
Test is to simply plug and play the Smart Booster (no change to stator), stay on curve 0 and to start engine.
If engine starts as expected, then it means the affected device is not part of the faulty batch and you have nothing to worry about !
If you have a chance to do that quickly, we would appreciate your feedback
Sorry for the inconvenience, appreciate your support !
Thank you,
Best Regards,
Antoine Jalabert
KyTronik Pte Ltd
mail: antoine@kytronik.com
www.kytronik.com" Well bummer. I hope I don't get one from the faulty batch! It gets even better. Here's the latest email I just received: "Dear Customer,
We are getting back to you regarding your recent purchase of Smart Booster 2016.
It has now been confirmed that the first serie of Smart Booster 2016 has been impacted by a defect we could not detect. The device you have received or you are about to receive is faulty and cannot be repaired.
First and foremost, we would like to apologize to you, especially because you had demonstrated your trust in our product by pre-ordering it ! Very sorry for that !
As the device is faulty and cannot be repair, we have thought about the simplest possible process for you and the safest for us; Hence, we have decided the following:
1. Send us a picture of your Smart Booster 2016 with all THREE cables cut as close as possible to the modules (see below).
2. Once we received the picture, we will refund you fully (the exact amount of money you have spent on our website) in the next few days.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused and we hope you will order again the next batch of Smart Booster 2016 !
We expect to have it available in about 2 months. Check our website regularly !
Tuning keeps you alive, do it !
Cheers, "So yeah- The SmartBooster I've been anxiously awaiting is a dud. And it hasn't even arrived yet! For the record, they already refunded the $$. I don't need to cut the wires like this and send a pic. I'm real bummed out about this.

Well I think instead of taking your money and not admitting fault and you beating your head trying to guess whats wrong. They stepped up, acknowledged the problem, and made thing right with refund. They should offer a discount on your next pre-order for coming back. Its just makes for good business. Waiting again does suck. Do you have to send the unit back ?

Yes it certainly does suck. I've been wanting this for a while now and it will actually solve some major issues with this scoot/also give major boost in performance all in one shot. Sigh. Looks like it doesn't have to be returned. I think the idea behind them wanting to see pics of the wires snipped is to minimize folks trying to re-sell them. They already issued the refund to my Paypal acct. so I don't need to snip the wires or return it. I may just bite the bullet and spend the $70 more for the kheper. Oh well, I think I was going to need to replace my CDI for the Kytronik to work anyway. (It's not an original Ducati CDI and supposedly the Kytronik doesn't work well unless it is). kheper-scooter.com/

I have one of those OBD2 Bluetooth thingies and use the Torque app on a tablet and find the real time response slow. Nothing beats a real time serial connection to the OBD2 bus. Think it would be more impressive to me if there was a USB/serial connection aka wired. Not dissing the product, just be nice to see it taken to the next level.
