It allows actual programming of the timing curve via bluetooth/app. Pretty impressive! USB programming available also.

Like I said in my previous post, not knocking down the product itself, just its use of bluetooth for communication. Your phone has wifi and the communication would be much faster. Some action camera us this to send "live" video stream and control to your smart phone.

Took some vid during a ride today. This is just a small portion of it. It's kinda boring but I find it interesting that you can really hear that "slappy" piston loud and clear in the vid. Not so much in person. It's breaking up a bit at high RPM's (again) and the richer I go the worse it gets. The leaner I go on the main jet the better it runs but of course I run into heating issues. Gotta get that piston outta there and I can see I'm really going to need to focus on getting the squish/volume dialed in if I want this thing to run strong and not implode. I can dial back the timing but that just turns it into a turd. She's running decent and reliable as-is but is nowhere near the monster it used to be and what I want it to be! Mo' money will solve that of course...

Why is that light flashing? Or is that the blinkers?

Why is that light flashing? Or is that the blinkers? My guess led and camera frame speed.

Although temps are high what does the plug tell you?

Although temps are high what does the plug tell you? Plug says rich. Very rich. Variable timing would solve so many issues but I need to replace this piston first...

That yellow light doesn't usually blink like that but I wired it into the blinker circuit so that it does. To remind me that my blinker is on. The blue lights lower down that look all funky is a digital voltmeter display that is affected by the camera and frame speed like Ryan mentioned.

Since the Kytronik I ordered is bunk and months away from them releasing a version that works correctly, I'm going to pony up almost double the price for a Kheper unit. Solutions and performance all in one package!

Solutions and performance all in one package! Ordered the Kepher unit yesterday and went back to their site today to do some research before it gets here. Now the site says sold out and sure enough I have a refund from them in my Paypal account. Strike #2 on the variable ignition! Grrr... now what??

Damn man, you keep having rotten luck with these people. There isn't an alternative?

Damn man, you keep having rotten luck with these people. There isn't an alternative? There are a few more options, but none that I'm particularly interested in. There's the proven "Vespatronic" setup which is a whole kit; stator, flywheel, CDI, coil etc. but it's very expensive- in the $400 range and there's only like three presets none of which are all that exciting. The only positive is that it is time tested and proven to be reliable. There's a few more other variable ignition gizmos too but again nothing impressive. These options I'm messing with are relatively new products to the market which is why I'm having such difficulties acquiring them. Faulty batches, limited production runs etc. When the new batch of $100 2016 Kytronik Smart Boosters got messed up it seems a lot of folks did exactly what I did and ponied up almost double for the Kepher 2.0 (has a lot more bells and whistles) so now they're sold out also. However it seems I may have finally found a leftover Smart Booster 2.5 (the older model before this '16 version) and in the U.S. even! www.scooter-speed.com/It's been like 20 hours since I ordered (a couple other goodies too ) and so far so good. Even got an email confirmation that my order is being shipped out and they haven't refunded me anything or mentioned that it was out-of-stock. Fingers Crossed! UPDATE: Oh man, I just went and looked and now their site says "out of stock" for the Kytronik. I better have just gotten the last one- hopefully my order didn't alert them to the fact that their site said "in stock" and they didn't actually have any left (which is pretty much what happened when I ordered the Kepher). I will be so pissed! www.scooter-speed.com/products.php?1206&cPath=13_14

So I took a half day off work today to go to a Dr. appointment and took the Vespa. It was a real long ride and I had a blast! Well, it was a long ride for me anyway- about 70 miles round trip. I left plenty early so I'd lots of time to make it there and I took my time and made a few stops along the way. The Vespa has been running pretty decent lately except for a few really annoying issues. The first issue is that I'm still riding with that broken Grand Sport piston. Honestly I can't really tell any difference in person but when I make a riding video I can really hear it slapping around in there. I also wonder if I didn't get a little too ball hone happy when I honed the cylinder... The second issue- and this one is the biggy right now- is that I'm having ignition problems pretty much exactly as nelson describes his- a "cutting out" over certain RPM's that acts like an over-rich symptom but it's not. I can feather the throttle and find a sweet spot but I'm limited to about 60 mph (GPS) with it running like this. I have pretty much always had this symptom using the Vespa CDI and the only time it ever cleared up is when I made my own CDI out of the GY6 coil/Adly CDI (somehow my not even two year old daughter got it into the swimming pool?? IDK how she even managed to throw it over the pool's wall but I found it in there one day while swimming. Funny/not funny ). I even tried to make a new one out of identical parts but it didn't spark (haven't tried it since I re-lapped the flywheel and got it running decent again though... New plug is showing a perfect mocha color and now that I have the choke lever hooked up I can reach down and pull it (an exhilarating experience at 55 mph!). It bogs for a split second when I pull it then goes right back to running great again. It will not idle with the choke lever pulled out however so there were lots of choke-lever-pulls-at-speed today! I can obviously go larger on the main jet which I plan to. I'm currently running "the seizer" again- a 105 that used to make it scream like a bat out of hell but soft seize in less than two miles back when I was running the homebrew CDI and lots of compression and ignition advance. A 108 or 110 seems about perfect... Now that I've backed off the compression and advance, and have honed the cylinder for a looser piston fit, and installed a fuel pump, I've run it up to 395 degrees with no signs of it wanting to seize. I saw those temps a few times today during real long stretches of WOT but always backed off a bit so as to not press my luck. I've got a few new parts coming so hopefully I can clear these nagging issues up but wow what a blast I had today with about a three hour round trip ride! I got numerous compliments at stoplights like "Hey I like your Vespa" and a few thumbs ups going down the road. I sure did get a lot of smiles from folks as I'd wring it's neck when the light turned green and leave the pack in a (small) wheelie haha (only by popping the clutch, the power wheelies went away with the timing advance and compression ). I think lots of folks are surprised to see a beat up old machine screaming around like that. On the way home I had a tail wind and late into the ride as I got closer to home and rush hour the traffic really picked up and I was just "in the zone" and passing cars and really just flying around like a madman on a Vespa. I really did have a blast. An older couple on a Harley and maybe a Goldwing?? were smiling at the stoplight because I kept up with them threading through traffic (nothing crazy or dangerous). At one point I was in front of a police car and was a little nervous about my Vermont "Antique" license plate. He didn't bat an eye at it. All in all I had a ton of fun today getting a decent ride in on the old Wasp! I've been riding it around daily lately but this was a huge jump from my little 2-3 mile jaunts to Walmart or whatever. She handled a 70 mile round trip and asked for more. Something about banging through the gears that is just fun fun fun. Damn now I'm really excited to get this stubborn female dog in heat running 100%!!

Booyah! Kudos to Scooter-Speed.com for the super fast delivery! I think I scored the last Smart Booster in the world haha-finally! Also a plunger kit for my clutch and a S.I.P. Fast Flow fuel tap. I got the one with the low fuel light plug as I hope to someday get their $200 digital speedo that it plugs into.
