I've never bought anything from them/it. It reminds me of an Asian ebay...
Anyway, what's everyone's opinions?
Is a couple hundred dollar order worth the risk?
Do I have recourse if the item isn't shipped?
Can I use Paypal?
And how long does it usually take to get a shipment?

Most of the stuff I've read it takes 3 to 6 weeks to get your order and it has to go through customs. Also you're responsible for fees and taxes associated with importing products. I thought about it doing an order but you had to have a minimum qty or minimum cash amount, but I think they've changed that now. Also when I order something it's usually cause I broke something and need it now. Would be cool to get a couple of buddies together and all throw in and order some things. Be careful though some are straight up scams. I saw one that was Kawasaki Ninjas for $300 each minimum order 1. Definitely too good too be true but I sent a email request asking for details from said manufacture. The next day someone in both Thailand and Taiwan tried to access my Gmail account. Fortunately the security app I had stopped them.

I've placed at least 50 orders on Aliexpress, had maybe 2 not arrive and 2 or 3 faulty items, all replaced by the sellers after a message or 2 with no problems, didn't even have to get Aliexpress involved.
I use there Alipay service. Just check the individual sellers feedback before buying anything expensive and you should be fine.
Check eBay too, most of the sellers on Aliexpress are also on eBay and the prices can vary between the sites.
Edit: were you looking at Alibaba rather than Aliexpress clank?

I've found 2 sellers that carry the item that I want. One has 97 percent rating and the other 98. That should be good, yeah?

I'd have no hesitation at all! If it was much under 90 I'd be getting slightly cautious depending what I'm ordering, Aliexpress protects buyers well so you can't go too far wrong.
It can get addictive ordering, I've normally got at least 3 or 4 items in my awaiting delivery list at any one time haha
Edit: just checked my account, I placed my first order in July 2014. I was slightly off when I said I'd placed 50 something orders, I've got 183 completed orders with a total of 6 disputes all ending in either refund or replacement, currently there's another 7 orders on there way haha

Large items, minimum orders, mimimum $ amounts and emailing directly with sellers etc sounds like Alibaba rather than Aliexpress. Alibaba is like big/bulk items aimed more at wholesalers while Aliexpress is more small everyday items aimed at consumers.

Whatever it was I know I found out about it through this forum and I know someone in Taiwan and someone in Thailand attempted to get access to my gmail account the next day. Cured me of even looking at those kinda sites.

My wife and I order stuff at aliexpress. If you choose the free shipping option that most sellers offer it take somewhere between 20-60 days to arrive. I also ordered my action cam there recently and it was shipped on March 14th from Hungary! No clue why Hungary, I live in Japan, order stuff in China and it gets shipped out from Europe, quite some distance, lol. Anyways I guess I'll have it somewhere around middle of April.
My wife on the other hand uses various carriers like UPS, EMS or DHL and all stuff arrived within 4-5 days. One thing I noticed is 99% of the sellers don't have their stuff in stock, they always say "ships within 7 business days" so if you place your order on a Friday it might take more then a week for your order to be shipped. My wife was upset about it at first but I told her if you don't hurry and want to get stuff cheap then you have to accept it otherwise pay more $$ and get it on amazon or anywhere else but Aliexpress.

It says that my order will be here in 27 days. I can deal with that for the money that I saved. And boy oh boy do they have a lot of stuff on there!

Shipping can vary a LOT, I always just take the free option, sometimes things are delivered to me here in New Zealand in under a week, other times it's 6 weeks or more, I always just try to forget I've ordered stuff lol And yeah a lot of the stuff is dropped shipped from factories/suppliers rather than held in stock by the sellers. The 2 voltmeters I ordered from Aliexpress were ordered on the same day from 2 different sellers, they were both sent the same day, both arrived today in identical packaging and both had the same return address which was an electronics factory.

I've had good experiences. Just allow plenty of time for shipping and work with a rated seller. I've never had to pay customs or fees but all the things I've ordered have been under $50
