Man, this day sucks ass. I have had a solid black cat, since the day he was born. He's almost a year old. Last week, he started screaming while trying to pee. Took him to the vet, four hundred and eighty five bux later, he was sent home, with Amoxi drops and Amitryptiline for a uti. Last night he started screaming again. His bladder was full, and rick hard, but he couldn't pee. Took him back to the vet, and they said they needed to put him down, cause he has a congenital deformity uh his urethra, that has caused a total unreversable blockage.
So, I held my best friend, and stroked his fur, as he took his last breath.
Odd, I really never liked cats until Elnegro Gatto ( the black cat ). Can't believe how shitty i feel today, don't even want to ride or turn a wrench. Just want to sit in the dark and chain smoke while drinking a case of Budweiser.

Thanx guys.
I never was a cat person either. A stray female cat had gotten into the attic of my old rental house that sits on the back of our property. She had a small litter of two kittens, one was a coon looking kitten, the other was my little El Negro Gatto, aka Negro. ( I AM NOT PREJUDICED TOWARD ANY RACE OR ETHNICITY. I FEEL THAT GOD HAS MADE US EACH EQUAL TO EVERYONE ELSE!!)
I went to the old house to get a part or something, and I heard a kitten screaming like it was on fire. Turns out that when the cat had her kittens, one if them ( Negro) had fallen down between the wall, and landed on the floor. I looked the attic over for over an hour, before I even thought of him being in the walls. I tore out four sheets of drywall, before finding him. His eyes weren't even open yet. I got him out, and the mother wouldn't have anything to do with him, wouldn't even nurse him. I bought that mothers milk replacement from the vet, and bottle fed him until he could eat on his own.
He got his name from a Mexican fella I had hired to help with a roofing job. We were in my house, for lunch, and the kitten crawled out from under the couch. This Mexican dude, jumped up and screamed like a cartoon woman that had seen a mouse!! He said something like "Ahh! El Gatto Negro, no bueno, no bueno means morte." Since that day, we have called him Negro.
R.I.P. El Gatto Negro We will never forget you.

Sucks man. I had a Rotweiler for 12 years and cried like a little girl when we had to put him down. They're like little furry children. Sometimes I like my dog more than my son and my son never pisses on the floor no matter how long I leave him home alone.

I'm a 'critter' person, love them all!Ive lost a few cats to FUS(feline urinary syndrome),a painful way to go,,found out later it is caused by catfoods with minerals not present,,I now constantly switch cat food for my 6 cats and have not had a problem for the last 25 years..I really hate to see them go,brings a tear to my eyes now,,God blessed us with them as they do make our lives much happier!!
PS,Go get a couple more and continue with another 'cat family'...

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen.
I still have my four dogs, and my wife and kids have a few cats.
Negros first infection was caused by the red dye, and higher ash content in a new food. Threw the fourth pound bag off at the pet shelter, told them it should be fog food, not cat. Now I only buy the Blue Buffalo and Iams.

I am really sorry for your loss my friend. I had the same thing happen but me and my cat went home to sleep on it and I rubbed his bladder until he pissed himself and then the medicine stood a chance and he fully recovered.

I really feel for you. It is amazing how our furry buddies become such a big part of our life. I too will probably cry like a baby when I lose my long haired friend.

UT problems are common in male cats and are frequently caused by high ash content in their food. Frequent catheterizations and UTIs are the result. There is an older operation that is not frequently done anymore that saved one of my cats. The penis and problematic urethra is eliminated and the bladder is connected directly to the outside. It makes a male cat into a 'girl' but it works. A neutered cat does not seem to notice the difference.
I have a big black male cat sitting in my lap, his name is Tomma. He was named by a little girl but got passed around by extended family members due to divorce, apartment rules, etc, etc. He now has a 'forever' home with me.
I have had cats all my life so i have lost many. It never gets any easier.

FrankenMech,
Yeah, it's not done very often around here, only a handful of veterinary docs in KY. will or can perform that operation. it's called a peritoneal urethrostomy, and he had it after the poor thing was drained. aReason I didn't say that, us I still feel terrible for putting him through that HELLISH brutal firm of torture/ medicine.
I felt so so bad for the little fellow, he had to be in tremendous pain. The vet wouldn't give him any pain medicine, so I did. I had some bupreniphrine left over from a stray cat that got hit by a car, I took her in, nursed her back, and gave her to an elderly woman. Anyway, I called a guy who is a vet in Lexington, an hour and a half away from me BTW, and asked him if it would be contra indicated for his situation. He was real cool about the question, and actually told me to give him that, and if I had any fifty milligrams of gabapentin. I am prescribed 1200 mgs a day if Nerountin so I gave him that and the bupe, it seemed to ease his pain, he started purring again.
When I had to face the facts, and had to put him down, I held him while he purred and took his last breath.
Still feels like a chunk of my soul was torn out. I burried him at the back of my yard, and built a creek rock ring around his little grave.
Starting to cry like a bitch again, gotta go.
Thank you to everyone for the kind words.
As long as I live I will NEVER allow another feline friend to endure such a primitive brutal operation. It does fix some, but it has a high (@45%) failure/fatalaty margin. Is that wrong of me??? If the vet I took him to would have just left a catheter in him, maybe, just maybe I would still have my little boy.
