OK, just finished my winter mods and went for a test ride. I removed all the plastics from the handlebars and installed a Koso gauge. The battery is shot so I kicked it several times, ok A LOT, to get it started. It's been sitting all winter so I expected a little resistance in running. I got it started and let it idle for about 5 mins to let it warm up and left my driveway. I made it about 100 feet and it stalled. if i kick it, it starts right back up but as soon as I touch the throttle it dies. It did the same thing last spring, and being a hard core DIY'er, I can't bear the thought of taking it to the shop again this year. What do I need to do to get this thing (and my wife's Buddy50) running smoothly?

I'd clean the carb if that hasn't been done to start, make sure the gas isn't funky, since it's sat for the winter.
Consider a battery tender for storing your scoots as well, so when you come back the batteries are charged and ready to go. You can get models that will attach to multiple batteries, so you could do the wife's and yours at the same time. The battery shouldn't be your problem, just a good idea for stored scoots.

I've never cleaned (or taken apart, for that matter) a carb before. I guess there's no time like the present. Besides, I'm planning on up-jetting it this season so it's a good time to learn the in's and out's of the little bugger. I found a pretty good video online describing the basics. I've installed countless lift kits on 4wd's and ripped apart 100's of cars in my day so I should be able to figure this out.
BTW 90GVT, My wife and I are in Frederick and are always looking for new places to ride and people to meet, any good rides/groups on the eastern shore?

Here's some more info for ya on carb cleaning... 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=carb&action=display&thread=363I know there was an article about scooting in Talbot County. They started off in Tilghman Island, MD and rented a scooter and then rode to Bellvue to take a ferry to Oxford, MD. That takes you along my favorite twisty road, well, half of if. It's not all that twisty or long, just a nice smooth road with curves, which is hard to find around here. I'm on that road up till about 2:20 in the vid below. Nothing special, it's just a really flat area here and it's hard to find smooth roads with curves that you can get a scooter around fast enough to be enjoyable. Oxford and St. Michaels are beautiful spots that get quite a few tourists, and you'd pass through them all on that ride. It's all too high brow for my kinda tourism, but that doesn't take much. lol Wine tasting, fine dining, maritime museums, sailing, etc... Still cool places to ride by the water. Otherwise, it's all farmland around me. Wish I could remember where that article was. www.oxfordmd.net/www.stmichaelsmd.org/www.tilghmanisland.com/My fav spot on the eastern shore, that I've never scooted, is Ocean City.

O.C. is a lot of fun, taking a scoot down there is the way to go. You can ride in the bus/bike lane and skip all the traffic. Just be sure to keep an eye out for the cars, they tend to cut in front trying to make turns across traffic.

My scoot just started doing this...not even a week old...lol well its older than that, but it was running great, just weak on the take off...and now its stalling out when I take off...almost to the point of dying...I changed the plug, gap set at .18(?) and the fuel filter, thinking maybe they were going...but its still doing it. I set the carb per the specs here in the carb setup section....and on the stand its super responsive...but as soon as I try to take off it bogs and dies...could this need a carb cleaning, or could it be the springs and rollers in the CVT?

Could be either, but I'd start with the carb cleaning. Make sure the main jet is clear.

I was taking the air box off, and noticed that NONE of the screws were in it...and inside the airbox was a small piece of foam that did nothing to filiter the air...and it was getting sucked up into the intake hose. IM going to look for a replacement filter, and or airbox, and untill then, I cut a new filter out of some filter foam, and put it in there, seald the box up good...and its back to running like normal. Yall werent joking when you said these things we picky about air filters...lol
