Well if you do have to replace the t.v's. I don't know if you have a frys electronics near by but if you sign up for there daily promo codes they have t.v. specials everyday. My 55" was under $400. My 50" I think was $340. You could get a $40" for probably $200.

I know we did when we had over the air, and there should still be a block under the house or in the box where the big line splits, but I really couldn't tell you what comcast did for the install for sure. I stopped messing with any of it, because since digital cable it seems like changing anything can screw up the signal.

Dammit, I hate having to spend $$ on stuff like TV's when I could be spending it on scooters! Sorry for the bad luck Brent. Sometimes no matter what you do with grounds and surge suppressors you cannot stop the destruction. I once had a CCTV installation with every camera cable grounded through a ground block and a bad storm took 20+ cameras out.

reminds me of the time at my grandparents house when my grandfather was messing with adding another 120v circuit, he accidentally connected the 120v to the neutral of a circuit served by the other 120 leg of the transformer creating a temporary 240v circuit, which made the light bulbs twice as bright and killed 2 tvs as well as a VCR, answering machine and the old NES. not good

Well when the "Technician" shows up, ask him to show you your grounding block and watch him the whole time cause if they failed to ground their system properly and it fried your TV's then they should be on the hook for the replacement costs. Another witness with a cell phone video camera can be of great value when observing the cable guy. They should have used a heavy gauge wire as shown below. If they used a smaller gauge then that's more ammo in your case.

Even a firm, properly sized ground connection can deterorate over time depending on atmosphereic conditions.

I'm not gonna get into it with comcast. They'd make me sue them, because nothing ever goes easy. Prob something somewhere in the customer agreement anyway that absolves them of all liability. They have a customer promise or guarantee or something like that, I forget what they call it, but they advertise it. If the technician is late or doesn't show, they give you a $20 credit on your bill. After multiple no shows and multiple complaints, they generally deny that we had any appointment. In one case we got them to say they'd give us the credit on a future bill. They never did, even after calling to ask about it a few times. They just promise and don't deliver.

I gave up cable when I moved in with Kellilee a few months ago. I kinda miss it but I don't miss the headaches dealing with them. We get Youtube, Netflix and Hulu so we're "entertained" I was running my MAC through my 32 in. Vizio TV on the HDMI 1 port when suddenly in back of the TV it sparked and arced like lightning and the HDMI 1 port stopped taking input. Now I'm looking for a new TV. On a side note and this may sound political but.... I think that the American public needs to wake the fuck up and realize that they are paying for ads and propaganda. The media companies should give us a cable box and service for free and thank us for watching and let the big corporations pay the tab with their ad dollars.

You're probably right. Out here, I can't see it paying for me to switch from comcast. I need fast internet and my next stop from cable is dial up. Try uploading multi-gig vids or big batches of pics on 56K. They have a bandwidth cap coming and plan to make users pay for going over it to be certain that users like me with little other option can't ditch cable or satellite TV if you want to watch it much.
One bit of good news... I fixed the phone line myself inadvertently. I am waiting on the tech and I needed to grab the adapter off of the TV in the garage to turn in. I noticed the phone out there was not lit up with a little charging/power light anymore. I went to pick up the handset to make sure it was on right and it was very hot and had a burnt smell. I wondered if a dead phone could kill the line, so after unplugging it I checked another and the phone works again. At least its' not the expensive modem and I won't need to rent one from comcast.

Cable TV is right up there with Big Pharma as far as ripping off the public goes.

I love dealing with these guys. So, I have a "guaranteed appointment window" from 1-3PM. They said that making the appointment, on the site, and 3 different confirmation/reminder calls. They just called me at 2:40PM to tell me it will be 4:30-5PM before they can make it. Just backs up what I mentioned earlier, that they continuously make empty promises, while advertising about how professional, caring, and reliable they are. At least this time I got a call instead of waiting and no one showing up at all though.

They got here earlier than the last estimate. Tech was here 5 minutes at most. It's not the cable boxes. He said that something is going on with electricity either to the house or in the house. He touched the TV and the electrical outlet with his meter and the box unhooked and the ports are hot. He said to call the power company and have them check from the house to the pole and if there's nothing there, then we'll have to hire an electrician.

Is cable even needed anymore? We got rid of ours a long time ago. Netflix/Prime/Youtube/arrr is plenty IMO.
