I've heard that many times, and that's how I do the same style of nut on the steering stem. I just didn't wanna say it because generally beating on a crank isn't encouraged. I guess as long as you are careful and only hit it in the direction to remove the nut, then it's alright. Speaking of direction, I think that one is LH thread.

Well today really wasn't my day scooterwise. I shattered the skirt of a brand new piston on the Vespa- AT IDLE!- and I took a step forward today on this flip only to take two steps backward. Sheesh! I started by polishing some plastics and buttoning the front end back up and got the floorboard back on only to realized I overlooked the fact that the speedo cluster backlights weren't coming on, and the floorboard plastics would be right in the way of my getting to the stator side to find out what that noise is. Ok, off came all those plastics again. lol. What a day. After doing some soldering with my fancy dancy new butane soldering iron (this thing rocks! I shoulda got one of these a long time ago!) I finally got a good ground for the backlights and got the front end back together again... Not exactly my best soldering work and plus I forgot to slide a piece of shrink wrap on before-hand. Ehh, a little electrical tape and it's fine hehe. On a positive note for the day, all the electrics on this thing now work properly and I also got my garage cleaned out- like pull everything out into the driveway and rearrange and get it really nice and organized clean- it feels really great now. Almost feels double the size!

Ya Oldgeek I have no idea how it happened- no warning and no signs of contact. The bottom of the skirt just broke off and instantly stopped the engine. Luckily no real damage to anything- well besides a brand new Grand Sport piston haha. I have some more info and pics in the 'shifty' build thread...

Hey all, I haven't had time to update this thread with all the juicy details and pics just yet, but I did finish this scoot today and got the Craigslist ad up and also made one of my typical Youtube vid's for it. In the end I never did get to get under the flywheel and find out what that noise is- I even made a special tool that locks on the flywheel since my wimpy air impact gun on a small pancake compressor couldn't get it off. Once I got the nut off the darned flywheel removal tool wouldn't correctly thread into the flywheel so I tried to pull it off with it only about 3 threads deep (reverse threads) and I pulled the threads right off the danged tool! Doh. Surprisingly I realized I did have another flywheel removal tool that also fit it- not sure where it came from, but I couldn't get that one threaded in more than 3 threads deep either. I ended up pulling the threads off both tools and finally just gave up getting the flywheel off. Oh well, maybe next time. So, I'm just selling it as-is with the noise. It runs great though- if I sit back on the seat and pull up on the handlebars a bit while throttling it it'll do a wheelie no problem! Here's the CL ad and also the video... tampa.craigslist.org/psc/mcy/5653702997.html

Well the CL ad and a few other ads (such as Facebook and OfferUp) have been up for a week and I've had surprisingly little response. Two older gentleman showed up the other day and were here for only a few minutes. They asked if you need a driver license to ride this (any judge in any courthouse will tell you it's your responsibility to know the laws!). I said yes. They left. lol. Today a woman showed up and test rode it- in the rain! Guess what her main issue was? Yep u got it- that danged noise. Sigh. She was a tough negotiator and I ended up letting it go for $450. I guess they can't all be home runs and with a family trip to Michigan coming up next week I'm happy to have the extra cash. I suppose there's still a possibility that the deal won't go through. She left $200 cash and wants to come back tomorrow to pick it up...

She'll be back... Does 55-60mph. And you know it's not gonna break down on her next week like a brand new 150 out the box. Just don't let her test ride your 2 stroke!
