I brew my own too but only when it is cost effective. If I can buy it cheaper I will...now when they are adding taxes, I will brew once again.

I brew my own because I can't stand American beers. And it seems all the craft brews and imports that I like are hella expensive. So $20-$30 for five gallons beats $9 for 4 12 oz bottles any day.

Yes, I am at about $20/5 gallons, but, I use Fizz Giz to carbonate so I have to add the cost of food grade CO2 cases....about another $5.00. The cool thing is that my home brew tastes like Heineken, which I could never afford. So, when I make it at home I am getting a better grade/tasting beer plus saving money. Bill

I made a scottish ale last time it was around 7.5% and so damn good. I could taste the grains and it was very malty.

I thought I was doing good as a kid to make hard cider. My mother kept finding it and throwing it out.

I do ciders and wines too, just not my fave things. Give me an irish stout, scottish ale or a mexican cerveza any day.

Arkie, if you come from Arkansas then brewing your own whether it is shine, wine, or beer is in the blood.
