Ok guys, so I'm putting in a high comp piston and file fitting the rings for proper end gap. about an hour in I'm done with the top ring but getting nowhere with the bottom. It was so bad I was entertaining thoughts of dremels with grinding discs. Not wanting to screw it up I got some emery cloth and laid on top of the file. Presto, wow, I couldn't believe the differance it made. It did not go too quickly but quick enough to beat that stinkin file by a good ways. Enjoy.

Of course make sure you leave corners unsharp... just takes a gentle stroke for this. Most inportant on inner corners of 2t rings to prevent pulling out ring locater

I am guilty of using a dremel.

Clamp a single cut mill file sideways in a vice, put the ring over the file, squeeze the ring ends against the file and push it up the file, leaves nice straight edges,,,

Should have read this thread before I did my BBK, I used a points file, took me a half hour just to get it within useable range and thanked the gas monkey gods the second ring was within spec...
