They bounced all over the place with the stators and rotors. They were also proprietary, that's why they need to be the right part for that year.

No this isn't a revivall of a dead thread, I have all of the Italian scoots running well and the shop and house are clean so I grabbed the TGB out of storage where it's been for 3 years. The reason I stopped was I was waiting for a rotor to show up on a slow boat from Taiwan. I decided it was probably the closest to being on the road and I could make a quick sale before the season ends. looking at it they are great scoots, 13" wheels, dual disk brakes nice big frame great looks, Morini engine that had bad cranks that failed pretty easy, ignore that last part. So I got it on the lift and cleaned the carb, replaced lines, tank was pretty empty: I put the rotor on, no problem. Hooked the new battery up and the signals flashed, damn 4 way flashers. I noticed half of the variator was by the battery and the cover was loose so I pulled and found I had left the variator half on, I went to pull it and there were no rollers and the drive boss was stuck, it turned though. No problem PB Blaster worked great on the ET4 so I sprayed some and waited. Pulled on it, pulled on it, got the heat gun out no problem heated it and pulled. That bugger is stuck. It,s part way off but not all of the way. I tried putting it back on and nothing. Here is a picture: I think the problem is that the crank is smooth where the boss goes, see the picture of the Athena crank: [/p]
The groove you see on the end is supposed to go in so that it sits over the splines for the starter gear and variator ramp and I have shoved the wrong end up into the splines. Jwhood you have experience with these TGB scoots, or maybe some one else can help. I tried a gear puller but can't get a grip on the ramp plate. There isn't enough room to get behind the starter gear with what I have. I think pushing it off would work better than pulling it off. Any help would be appreciated.

It's happened to me on the same scooter, will the boss spin at all or is it jammed in the back??Use a thick end pry bar at the end of boss and the ramp, where the gap is

I tried the wheel puller but the ramp plate gets in the way to get 2 points that are 180deg. from each other.
Jwhood yes it does spin which is strange, I don't know if I have a pry bar small enough but that may work.
Last night I thought about a bearing separator and puller set. Get the separator behind the boss then use the puller to get it off. Its been soaking in PB blaster all night so let me see if I I have small enough pry bar to get in, then off to see if I can fit the separator into the area to get it to work.
I'll keep you posted.

Well I didn't have a pry bar but I did have a 20oz. hammer with a rip claw that was able to get it off. I cleaned everything off and got it back together with the kick starter deleted. I went to start it and nothing, starter spray nothing. I pulled the plug and got a big spark and oil spraying out of the plug hole. I guess sitting the some oil drained into the crank case, not much because the tank is 3/4 full but enough that I need to get it out. I'll try and go in through the intake and see what I get. I do have a HF brake line bleeder that should suck it out pretty nicely. I would rather not crack the cases. I really just want to see it run and know that the stator and rotor are doing their jobs before I put any more energy into this.

Yes it is. It does seem to be sticky, I sanded the inside of it and the crank and its better. I got the oil out and it started and ran. I turned it off so I can decide whether to put a PHBG clone on it and fit the doppler filter on. Or stay with the little open filter I have. You mentioned you have a TGB air box, is it still available? I may hit you up for it if I can't tune it in with what I have.

I was busy yesterday, I got the cooling shrouds and fan back on and got it running with the stock carb. I smoked out the shop and it was spewing oil out of the exhaust. I decided to put the phbg carb on, it was set with a 75 main, I didn't check the pilot. I was able to mount the Doppler Alien filter on with only one hole open. I found the oil problem was from a check valve that leaks, I'll need to replace that. I got it running and revving well when it just died. Nothing could get it to start again, starter fluid nothing. The plug was dry so it wasn't getting fuel to the cylinder. I had spark but nothing would get it going. I put starter fluid in the cylinder and still no pop. I suspect that the oil clogged the exhaust so I'll pull that today and clean it out. The crankcase may have filled again so I'll look there as well. Possibly the reeds are stuck or clogged. Here are pictures of the PHBG with the doppler: Next up was the rear brake that has been non functioning. I pulled the caliper and bled all of the fluid out. I opened it up and the piston was frozen. I tried moving it with a C-clamp and I bent the C-clamp. Off to the storage unit to the 12 ton press. It did the job and I got it moving. I refilled and bled it down but its still a little sticky. I'll work on that more and try to get it right. I can get a new one for $150 from England but I think I can get this one working. It's a brand new day and I'm filled with hope I can ride this today.

So I finally got the carb tuned in enough to discover I have an air leak. Its probably the intake that I pulled and I was lazy and didn't put a new gasket on. I could cover the intake on the Doppler and it would bring it down some but its pretty bad. I did get the brake working better. I probably just need to use it to get it working well. I decided I needed to get one of my storage unit scoots running so I pulled the Pinkscoot out and pushed the TGB to the back.

pinkscoot If you make friends with that Doppler air box let me know, I have two you can have. I tried one quite a while on different scoots, never was able to achieve a decent tune with one.

How did she ride? Your right that is a pretty good looking bike. It looks like it has a long wheelbase so wheelies would probably require a little more effort. One good thing is it has that rear disc, if you could get that fixed I’m sure there’s an eager buyer out there still wanting to get some riding in before it gets too cold. I can’t believe they want $150 for a new caliper!? There’s gotta be some more parts sources for these things or it may be the case with us Vento/Yamati/Keeway guys, plastics, chassis/brake parts take some serious digging to find.

Maybe tomorrow I'll actually take the energy to put a new gasket in. I really haven't ridden this scoot in the 3-4 years I've owned it. When I first started working on it I discovered a bad crank that trashed the stator and rotor. By the time I got the correct rotor it was in storage waiting for me. I do need to get a check valve for it so it can run injected. Its hard to sell a scoot that needs to be premixed.
