So I was back at it yesterday. The partsforscooters CDI plug configuration is wrong but RacingPlanet had the right one. They said in stock ships in 24 hours. I ordered it and a few days later it said it had to ship from Europe. 3 weeks later it came in and was right. I started it up and went for a ride up and down the street. They were right about unrestricted, I hit 14,000 rpm. Time for some heavier weights. I was so excited I got 10 passes in and stopped to talk to the lawn guy and it slowly died. Got it back on the lift and still had spark and no start. I thought about the way I ran the fuel line and decided to let gravity help it and shortened it by a lot. Found grunge in the filter so I replaced it. Went for a ride on the Scarabeo and came back. It started when I held the throttle open I did another 10 passes and pulled in the drive and it died. It runs fine at full throttle but once it warm it dies at idle. I think its time for the temp gauge to see how hot it is running.

Turns out I never rode it after the fuel line fix. It does fine now. Up and down the street it goes stop and idle stays fine that's all good now. The problem now is it won't start when I turn it off. It wants to start but just won't get there. I've choked and un choked, throttle open and closed but nothing. So now I'm stumped, any suggestions on what to try next?

The last time it quite running and wouldn't start it had spark and compression was 135psi. warm.

So I played with the Idle A/f mix and have it starting when warm now. More playing to be sure then the body panels go back on and get cleaned up.

So I spent last weekend putting the plastics back on the front. The headlight lens was one of the worst I have ever seen I wish it was as good as the before and after pictures you see in the ad's. So I started it up and did another test ride and it died on idle again. It sounds like it wants to start but nada. When I pull the plug it has spark but the plug is dry. tried starter fluid and nothing. I cleaned the carb and put a smaller main in, put a 40 slide in and a true labeled A9 needle at second notch. It still behaved badly. I'm starting to think it's not getting fuel to the cylinder. The carb is working because it runs when I first start and ride it. I'm wondering if it's reeds? It that possible? Maybe having the open intake and exhaust causes them to stick open or stay shut. I'm going to go back to my Doppler alien intake and see what I get. Then pull the reeds. If I remember right it involves pulling the engine mounting bolt. But then again it's been a while since I was in there.

I pulled the reed block which means I pulled the motor mount. The reeds are steel and seem a little stiff. While I was there I looked into the crankcase to see if there was still oil in there. I didn't see a big pool but there is plenty of oil in there. I put a poling 19mm carb I had on to replace the 19mm Delorrto. It had an unknown Pilot jet that had been butchered and a 94 main. I don't have any mains for it so I decided WTF. I put it all back together with the only open filter that would fit. The chock doesn't stay out on its own so I did a starting stretch to hold it the brake and hit the starter button. It started up and I tuned in the idle screw as it warmed. It idled nicely while I geared up. I took it for a ride.It had a bit of a gurgle as I opened the throttle but not a bad one. I rode back and forth and it did fine. Pulled in the drive and it died. I did get it to start but it didn't Idle well. The plug actually looks good so the 94 might not be bad. I have other things to do tomorrow so back at it Monday.

So I couldn't leave it alone today. I found the Polini manual and it says 1-1 1/2 turns. I set it to 1 1/2 and started it and it took a little bit to get it started but it did. I then played with it and found that sweet spot and took it for a ride. got it nice and warmed up riding up and down the street. The 94 main was a little gurgle but ridable. Pulled it back on the lift it died for a bit then stopped. I went to do the choke gymnastics and discovered that now it stays out and had been out the whole time, damn. I screwed the A/F screw back in and came out 1 1/2 got it started again and adjusted it again. It feels okay. I forced myself to stop playing because I have to get our Unions accountant information for the 2019 taxes. Maybe later I'll play again. But for now I am hoping I have it. My thought is that the Polini carb is fine but I am fully invested in Dellorto, I have all the bits to tune them. It was also getting used to the A/F screw on the air side. I won't mind selling it with this scoot. I may also leave it rich because I would think whoever buys it will make it 70cc real quick and the carb is already close for that.

I like the Dellorto carbs. I tend to put them in all my scooters. 😁

I did somehow miss this saga. So I wasn't following. When were you doing all these test runs? You don't have to answer that. Only saw you do about 6.

Just riding it until it failed. I'll get back on this after I get the Pinkscoot running as a loaner.

I played on this some more. I put a thermometer on it thinking it was a heat issue. The themps stabilize at 250-260F so the 94 main jet is good. The idle it drops a little but not much. The plug looks good. I know the no start is in the idle circuit because when I open the throttle it starts then will idle. With the choke on it idles at 4000rpm so Maybe I just need to richen the idle up. It's getting better I just need to get some of these scoots out of the garage:
I just realized I missed the ET4 by the door.

Have you checked for exhaust leak? Heard one zip by a couple of times. Loud. I was in a room, where I couldn't get a look.

It's an open filter with a Next R exhaust so of course it's loud.
