I finally had a day off and was able to get to the Derbi yesterday. I decided that at 110psi compression I should put the kit on. While pulling the engine I discovered I never connected the ground up, that might have been the problem with how it was running but I still wanted the hire compression and I had the kit already to go on so why not go for the extra power. I also got the Durations while I was at it. The exhaust was 180 degrees and the Transfer was 126 degrees. Here is the port map I did of the cylinder: I don't know enough to know how this compares to other kits. one thing that concerned me was that at BDC the piston didn't completely clear the ports: Here it is at TDC: The squish was .94, not what I would like but pulling the base gasket would make it worse for the transfer ports. The solution would be to take a little off the cylinder to get the better squish. Maybe in the future I'll do some work on it. I put a 19mm Dellorto Clone that I have because I don't have a good mix of Weber jets and I wanted to go to a Dellorto carb to see if they are as easy to tune as everyone says. I also put the carbon fiber reeds that came with the kit in. The engine started and ran well. I tried the plug Malossi specced and it ran okay, it was maybe a little rough. I put the B9ES plug it and it ran much smoother. The engine ran a bit cooler than it did with the old aluminum Cylinder. Today I'll start tuning it in. I have a new belt for it, the old one is 16 years old and I'm not sure I want to trust it. I look forward to comments on the durations and port map.

I spent Yesterday getting a parts bike for the Predator, I traded the Roughhouse for it. The plastics are pretty rough and the engine sounds like it has problems when I kick start it. The guy I got it from only tried a little and said it was parting time. It is interesting seeing it because even though its the same year Its not the Replica. It has a DOT Plate on it with all of the VIN and tire information. Mine just has a sticker under the seat. I suspect mine was brought into the country by an individual. I was able to start tuning my predator. I started with a Dellorto PHBG 19mm Clone with a W9 needle and a 89 MJ and the needle up one notch from the bottom. It could barely make it down my driveway. I went to a 78 MJ and the needle 1 notch down from the top notch . I it was better but still sucked. I went to a 72 MJ (the next size down that I had. It was better again but still not there. I then remembered I had the B9ES 19mm plug that Derbi Specs. I swapped with the Denso 14mm plug Malossi speced it was much better, I was able to get out of my own way. I went back and looked at the head from Derbi and saw why the longer plug worked, the plug tip sits deeper in the combustion chamber. I'll add a picture. I took it for a test drive and it ran well. It was a little slow at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. Suddenly I lost all power. I pulled over and started looking, I smelled gas and opened the seat and low and behold the fuel filter broke. Not sure how it happened. So without tools I managed to get the broken pieces out of the hose and rode home with no fuel filter. I need to put together a little tool bag even for these short trips. I did notice that it was running better without the fuel filter. Not sure what that was about. I had a spare at home and fixed that. I checked the plug and it was a nice dark brown. Tuned the idle in well and went for another ride. Better but not perfect. I think I may need to play with it some more. I ordered a w7 and w8 needle and some smaller jets. Tomorrow I'll put a new plug in and take it for a longer ride, with a tool kit and some spare parts. I got the plastics back on and experimented with cleaning them up. I rode it to work and here are some pictures.

I just love Derbi's. Great looking scoots, but with terrible UV protection on their plastics. You can make them look a lot better though with a heat gun if you're really careful. I'm talking about the grey btw.

Nice lookin scoot, there was a derbi gpr (i think)2 stroke looked like a streeg bike. I was so close to buyng that thing. They make nice bikes imo. Your port timing sounds like 10500 rpm max and thats just a guess. Is it a sport cylinder? Shoukd be big improvement over stock!

I played with a heat gun on my Hyosung gray plastic. It was okay but they were in really bad shape and I said screw it and painted with bed liner. I think I'll try it on these but with a cooler gun. Mine is an industrial one that will melt it without looking twice.

You can look up on YouTube how to use a heat gun on faded plastic. It does wonders.... if you're careful. You can ruin them if you're not.

One problem with the bed liner is it scuffs and is hard to clean. You also need to prep well or it flakes off. The heat gun method also requires really clean plastic otherwise the dirt or fluid gets into the plastic and stains.

The surface of the grey bits on mine has turned to mush almost. You can scrape it with your fingernail.
I'd planned on hitting it with a wire brush to knock off all the loose part then painting with something.

The heat gun will fix that, but if it sits outside it'll do it all over again I would imagine.

ThomasTPFL, mine is mush also. I scrubbed it with a brush and took it down to a clean surface but its still mushy. I haven't gotten into the parts bike yet but so far it looks identical mechanically. The differences are things like turn signal stalks on the handle bars, my replica doesn't have them, and reflectors on the back. I haven't opened the CVT on the parts bike to see if there are any goodies in there. The bolts look like they haven't been touched in a while. Let me know what you need off of it.

I went for a nice ride this morning and steered clear of pot holes and everything stayed together. A few issues, I get vibrations in the front end when I take off. It also is a little dead on take off on a hill. It handles great and runs about center and lower on the temperature gauge. I can almost touch the head when the gauge is center. I need to get a digital temperature gauge on it. At WOT the best I can get is 6000rpm and the belt moves to the top of the variator. When I got back I was able to better adjust the idle circuit, I had it way lean. I decided to look into the parts bikes variator. I guess I didn't look closely, it had been tuned and only had 3 bolts in the cover. Inside I discovered a Malossi Multivar with a loose bushing that was almost out and under the belt. It had flat 7 gram rollers in it. The clutch is also after market but with no name on it only these numbers that when I google it says its for a Derbi. It also has the logo on it. It may be the OEM clutch but the bell is different Here are pictures of each: Notice the holes and the hatch marks on the bell interior. Any ideas on who makes it? It also had the yellow contra spring that comes with the Multivar. I got the bushing back in the variator using Bretts stippling method. With the stock variator I noticed the belt doesn't sit all the way at the bottom of the variator and I think that could be slowing my take off. It seems to be tight. Tomorrow the clutch with my 6g rollers. If that doesn't work I'll try the Malossi Variator with the 4gram rollers that I have. I may try the only scooter shop in town and see what weight rollers they have. I do have some clutch springs to try as well. Tomorrow will be another tuning day. I also looked at the exhaust from the parts bike, it is a different OEM exhaust they used.
