It's a cheapy compression tester. It said my Peace Sports was making 120PSI, which seemed about accurate for how much clearance there was. (135 after taking out the base gasket.)

You might want to read this. modernvespa.com/forum/wiki-getting-your-2-stroke-to-run-properlyIv highlighted the part that's the most important read. "Check that Compression If the automatic choke is problem free, the starter cranks the engine sufficiently, there's fuel at the carb and there's a strong spark then there may be an engine problem and you need to check the cylinder compression. To do this accurately you will need a compression tester. It screws in instead of the spark plug and measures cylinder pressure. When you crank the engine you should see a reading of approaching 125-150 psi. If it's 100 psi or less then its likely that you have an engine problem (probably failed piston rings) and you will need to remove the cylinder head to gain access to the piston rings. A trick to try if you haven't got a Compression Tester is to hold your finger tightly over the spark plug hole with the spark plug removed to see if your finger is forced away strongly when you try to turn the engine over - it may just indicate that there is very little compression if the force is very minor. Another tip is to add a teaspoon of engine oil through the spark plug hole and try to crank the engine again. If you then get a better compression its likely that the piston rings are shot, as the oil you added sealed the rings for a short period of time and hence temporarily gave you better compression."

The exhaust might be plugged up. Bingo. Finally had time to work on it, couldn't feel anything from the exhaust, poked a ton of dirt and crap out, fired right up. It died after running for 20 seconds or so and I can't get it to start again, plus the carb is leaking. But it runs.

Worked on it again. Got started by spraying some starter fluid down the carb (I know, I know.) and kicking really fast with the throttle open. Runs pretty good from what I can tell, apart from being tuned for the restrictive airbox.

I would add a little 2 stroke oil to the gas, just in case the injector pump is not working or till you can verify that the injection oil pump is working.

I got it to ride. About 5mph and I smoked out the whole neighborhood, but it rides. It was suuuper sketchy at first, then I realized the front tire was totally empty. Got better after pumping it up but it still rides like crap, which it is.

Okay, so, I've clearly got some work to do. All I did today was repair the seat with duct tape. Gotta get the suspension to suspend right, make the front brake less sticky, make the back brake work, etc. Then I can start thinking about performance.. I wanna keep this thing cheap as I possibly can. So nothing that won't make it go faster, apart from maybe a battery because the fact that I need the center stand down to kick it is annoying as hell. Step one is probably a new carburetor, the stock one is hilariously tiny. Anyone know what will fit for under $25 or so? Something like this maybe? www.ebay.com/itm/Carb-Yamaha-YZ80-YZ85-DT125-Motorcycle-Carburetor-W-Air-Filter-/221367550949?hash=item338a88c3e5:g:e7QAAOSwoBtW4GCk&vxp=mtrAlso exhausts are expensive. I'm thinking I'll just drill some big holes in the back of the muffler and call it a day. That oughta make it go faster, right?

The only thing you will gain with big hole in the exhaust is more noise. You will actually loose power especially down low and you will never rev up under load. Picture credit: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expansion_chamberAn expansion type exhaust is the only "true" way to make more power. If you watch the animation, the exhaust pressure wave(grey) actually pushes the intake charge(green) that would of just passed thru the exhaust back into the cylinder to get burned. This event only takes place in a certain rpm range where this works optionally. Hence the term "hitting the pipe"(not the crack one) 2 strokes like back pressure.(to a extent)

Yes, I realize all that, but would the added noise (We all know louder=cooler, to an extent) cause any performance drawbacks? The pre 86 stock pipes are pretty damn restrictive from what I've read. Not like these things had much power to begin with anyway, with a 36MPH top speed.
