If it's a 50cc and you're doing 55MPH at your weight I would guess the speedo is wrong (very common) or it's not a 50cc. Posting pics of the engine and scoot would be helpful. Different engines have the engine numbers in different spots so basically just look the engine cases over well for a series of letters and numbers. Check by the rear of the engine/cvt case up top, near the shock. That's a common spot.

speedo isnt off much...the wife was beside me doing 45 and I was reading just over 50...read it wrong yesterday...will upload pics when I get them on photobucket tonight. the guy who owned it was a scooter mechanic...so he may have done some things to it already...but I cant say for sure..because he doesnt know I am the one who has it...long story, but I got it legal...it jumps up to speed real fast....not picking the tire off the ground, but after 10mph...it really takes off...you can feel it toss you back a little. thanks for thehelp....I found a number on the back..Ill get it cleaned up and take a pic of it also.

Well, 45 and 55 are a world apart for a 50cc. That 10MPH up top can be hard to come by. 45 isn't all that uncommon for a 2T unrestricted in good working order. What's the number?
1E40QMB or something really close to that is one of the most common, good running, 2T scoot engines.

That's a 1E40QMB / Minarelli / Jog motor. The number will be right near where the rear shock mounts to the engine/cvt case. It could possibly be some other variation of that motor, but it's definitely the minarelli/jog style of engine. Lots of performance parts available and lots of info on them in our Tech Library. ;D
